So, I'll take your advice, read the book and then again the film, I've only watched once and some years ago. I have a lovely memory of the film, but I don't remember the details, it will be like reliving it

Shadowlands was another good Anthony Hopkins film, and so too was "Meet Joe Black".

Loved both Remains of the Day and Shadowlands, but didn't like Meet Joe Black. I found it a bit too sugary. Also loved Watchmen, and looking forward to Kickass, which hasn't shown here yet.
I'm also a sucker for any WW2 movie, and war movies in general. Except for Pearl Harbour, hated that even though PF was in it! They're repeating Band of Brothers on telly over here, and I just love it. I only need to hear that moving music to get a lump in my throat, as it reminds so much of the sacrifices that generation made.

I was always a bit angry Nigel Hawthorne didn't get to do 'Shadowlands' - he was the one who made the role in the West End. I like Hopkins but always wished the world got to see him in another dramatic role other than 'The Madness of King George' - which is also magnificent.
He's best known for his comedy, but he was such an amazing actor full stop. It's also comforting that he was in his early fifties when he really started to actually have a career. That's inspiring. Actually a lot of actors I love didn't really crack the big time until they were forty or more.

Not at all. Perhaps writing wise. My point is, it makes me feel better about being an chronic underachiever in my mid twenties.
Can highly recommend 'A Single Man'. Fantastic, underrated cast and Tom Ford really has an eye for directing.

JH you wait until you hit 50 and look back on what you have achieved very frightening, especially when you see youngsters doing so much.
I too would liked to have been a writer probably one of my more realistic secret ambitions, I certainly would have liked to have worked on the SPOOKS sets series 1 where so much attention to detail was evident

Yes I agree the Untouchables was brilliant especially the scene in Grand Central Station and the baby in the pram going down those steps.
Also enjoyed "Message in a Bottle", but purely for the links with sailing and the beautiful boats and locations used.

Just rewatched the new Sherlock Holmes for the second time. It's still on my list.
Most Mel Brooks films are great. It's just some times difficult to figure out which ones. Blazing Saddles is still my all time favorite. Spaceballs is second, not because it's good, but because it's the perfect film for 12 year old boys and I was 12 when it came out in the theater. A lot of stuff I did in my drama class in high school was based on stuff from Spaceballs. Somehow I still got an A.
