Ok, got to remember to breath now. OMG! IT'S BACK!!! Anyway, initial hyperness aside I shall post tomorrow with my (over)analysis of the episode - I've really got to get some sleep. Spooks addiction my friends just about tolerate but Spooks plus me with no sleep is really not a good combo. Night all!

Wow! Within 10 minutes I had already received two big shocks.

Slightly slow moving to begin with but overall an excellent beginning to Season 9.

I'm undecided as yet about Sophia Myles addition to the cast.

However I got certain vibes about the Harry/Ruth relationship.
Spoiler: show
I am now convinced the "ultimate betrayal" RA has been talking about will be Ruth

After waiting all of three days, Spooks season 9.1 didn't disappoint. Loved Ruth's reading, very appropriate for Ros. Great Harry and Nicholas Blake scene, especially Harry's tear. Liked SM's introduction and MB looks a good addition too. I'll leave my H/R musings for the H/R thread but their scenes together were so heartbreaking but so in character, I cried at Ruth's "we'll never be as together as we are now" line.

Not sure about the Lucas subplot with Vaughn though. Intriguing that Vaughn calls him John.

OMG! Totally shell shocked by all of that so will probably come back later. Totally different Spooks. The filming was different, the writing was different. They have certainly looked back at S8 and thought, we can do better than that. You got to see into the characters more and there was a lot more banter. As for the plot, a bit silly, but hey ho, it worked and still had you on the edge of your seat.

I really liked the new characters, especially Max Brown. He was very good. I think Beth will grow on me over time.

I have already posted my comments on the H/R thread about that and I feel very sad for Harry. I am very confused about what Ruth is trying to do. She did love Harry. She did want him. I can understand why she said no to the proposal. It wasn't exactly great timing but at the end??? Who does she think is going to make her happy, if not Harry. I don't know. Kudos, you really do drag us shippers over the hot coals. I really thought it was it for them tonight.

I liked the team working together. It felt they were one entity for a change. The new Home Sec also had his moments.

As for the opening scene with Harry. OMG! They way he killed the old HS. I was screaming at the TV. Classic Harry. He would have his revenge. What did Harry once say to the old HS? "You will find out what type of bastard I can be?" Well, he did, didn't he.

I am so shocked !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I missed that. Will have to go back and look.

Interesting idea, nothingisasitseems...you may be right.

Was shocked by Harry proposing to Ruth and then murdering the ex-HS in the first five minutes! Would also have been dismayed by him giving his resignation had I not seen filming of a later ep but it all worked out okay in the end. He wore the gold tie though, which was nice. [Took all the spoiler tags out...was erring too much on the side of caution, methinks.]

I liked the new additions to the cast. I must confess to being a bit bored with Ruth and Lucas. [runs away very quickly after spotting Armitage Army coming round the corner in droves...]

Criticisms: yet again, it appears that the HS is the only minister our govt has...and Harry would resign to his own DG, not the HS. I know: picky, picky, picky.

The submersibles coming along the Thames were so exciting- I thought it was really cleverly filmed. And Ruth saying 'no' to Harry was such a shock. Had a nasty moment when Harry handed over his resignation but luckily the home secretary had more sense than to open it. Did you see the way the new home secretary smirked when Harry said he did well on the six o'clock news? He is going to be easy to manage, the vain old thing!

WOW. So much to take in right now. All the tying up of the old plots (Ros & Old h/s) - all the new characters - and what is the story of Lucas? Then there was the general plot of the episode.

Not sure I want to try and read anything into the plots yet as I am still on a happy vibe from the return of the series and a little bit woozie (not sure if thats the right spelling) from the wine i've been drinking.

Will no doubt analyse in my sleep and comment later.

Sorry, not trying to be a mod but we don't need spoiler tags once aired on BBC1 in this thread if about this episode. Sorry. Just makes reading the comments easier. SmileSmile

Poisoning the old HS.

I was watching Harry very carefully to see if he drank from his glass, which I'm sure he did. But I didn't see him lace the HS's glass when he poisoned him. I'll watch it again on iPlayer tomorrow, but did anyone else get a good look?
