I think Digital spy use data also supplied by BARB, but these are overnight viewing figures, literally what their 'panel' watched last night. But BARB also record when programmes are watched within 24 hours on recorded media and when the programme is watched within 7 days of broadcast on the TV via 'watch on demand' thingies. Therefore the figure goes up when they collate all the data. They don't seem the measure TV watched via the web, as they have devices attached to TVs in peoples houses.
At least that what I think, I could be completely wrong.

They use BARB for their figures. The last figures available on there are for episode 9.5. They give Spooks 6.35 million viewers and Whitechapel 6.21 million. The information released on the net the day after said it was a tie between the two episodes which each had around 5.3 million viewers. I am no expert here, but how come these numbers vary so much? Do BARB take into account iplayer and Sky+ viewings?

New Tricks consistently beats Spooks!?! That surprises me a bit. Don't get me wrong, we get New Tricks where I live and it is regular Friday night viewing - mostly because I adore Alun Armstrong and the Husband thinks Amanda Redman is hot - but that does surprise me a bit.

Very discouraging figures this week dipping below 5m for the first time especially since it is the Season's penultimate episode and on the back of the fantastic E6 - maybe the general public prefer a different style to Spooks fans. It would look as if some who have watched the last few weeks turned to ITV's The Little House.

It's just as well S10 is confirmed. Although personally I have a bad feeling about it, who am I to argue with Ian Wylie?

The Lucas plot is pretty convoluted and if you're a the TV equivalent of a swing voter I should think shows with simpler plots are going to win. If they had upped the Harry and Ruth thing more I think the series would do better, but I should think a lot of people have given up hope of that. The Lucas plot has probably been a bit complicated for some. I love it, because you do have to get involved with the plot, but it's not to everyone's taste in these soap and reality TV obsessed times.

Maybe like me others are sick of all the Lucas story air time, give us more H & R

I don't think the figures were that bad at all and overall the figures have been good all series. I think it will be interesting to see what the BARB figures are for the last three weeks. This series has done much better than series 8 anyway.

Episode 6 is often the lowest rating of the 8. That's not a huge shock but disappointing given what an excellent episode it was.

Funny you should touch on that Naviety! We were out a few weeks ago for a pint with some friends, and Spooks came up in the conversation :-) Some of them watch it too (probably not with the same obsession as me Dodgy, I didn't reveal my cards on that one. And I asked what they thought of Lucas & was he good/bad/indifferent? 'Dodgy definitely' was the short answer. One of the lads, a bloke, piped up 'but what about Harry & Ruth, what's the story there? He likes her, she likes him. What's the bloody problem? Why don't they just get it together for God's sake' !!
Perhaps no truer word said. Still it's great TV for the fans, but maybe people are getting sick of a good plot line being drawn out so long and are switching Confused
