The story behind the Legend - Apicius - 13-11-2010 10:54 PM

As all good spooks people here on the forum each have their own Legend (or username if you're being boring), but what's the story behind the name?
Some seem more obvious than others are more intriguing...

I thought this could be a chance to guess about the origins of some of the more interesting names (the more amusing suggestions the better!), share where your own Legend came from, or just say a bit about how you discovered SF or even Spooks itself.

Mine is an abbreviation Smile It's from a couple of years ago when I first started writing on ff.net, and quite a few people at my school thought I was insane, so I thought that it would be a good idea to call myself "A Little Mad Here". I use this name, or a similar version (dosalmhhrs) on most websites that I sign up to. (Dosalmhhrs is another abbreviation, as I used to have three different usernames, and I decided to merge them into one).

Anyway, that's my mildly interesting story.

I'd tell you but then I'd have to kill you. Wink

Nice, A Cousin Tongue

Mine's kind of boring (and obvious - my name and the first letter of my surname) but my fanfiction username has a kind of Spooks-y story behind it. When you put 'Nia' into the NATO phonetic alphabet, it comes out as November India Alpha, which I then shortened to Novindalf Big Grin

RE: The story behind the Legend - Tea Lady - 16-11-2010 07:32 PM

To be honest I didn't really give it much thought and plucked it out of the air. I think I thought I wouldn't post on the forum much so it didn't really matter Smile if I had my time again, I would use my Twitter name Mrs Giles Farmer. That's a cool name. Big Grin

RE: The story behind the Legend - watchstrap - 16-11-2010 08:12 PM

I just used Watchstrap because I use it for lots of other web stuff. Watchstrap came about when I tried to register a username for a web shopping site and tried to base something around my real name. The trouble with that is my surname is probably the most popular four letter word on the planet! Couple this with Lisa and people either say 'wow, what a cool name' or 'you sound like a porn star'. I get loads of dodgy spam and my poor husband Twitters for his job and gets followed by very dodgy women. So it's virtually impossible to incorporate my name into any username, after about 10 attempts I settled for a random name - Watchstrap. Don't really like it that much as it says nothing about me, or maybe that's the point. Wish I had given my Spooks name a bit more thought.

I chose mine in honour of the very lovely neckwear the great Sir Harry treats us to. Always had a weakness for a man in a smart suit.

Mine is really just the first thing that came into my head when asked for a user name, and I know Harry has used it once or twice in Spooks. It kind of reflects my name as well.

RE: The story behind the Legend - tyme4t - 17-11-2010 11:53 AM

A long time ago when registering for my first email account I wanted it to be time4t - T is the first letter of my name and it had the dual meaning of time for tea and time for T.

Well that username/email name was gone and so I tried variations and happened upon tyme_4_t@...
And since using the _ in my username on various sites would be a pain all the time I now shorten it to tyme4t and that's the long and short of it.

And I Heart the time I spend here for T usually enjoying my tea in the morning! (and afternoon and evening and late night...)

RE: The story behind the Legend - Nitrus - 17-11-2010 02:03 PM

My first screen name on Counter Strike (game) was Nitrous_Oxide. Thought that was a bit long so reduced it to Nitrous but I thought that looked strange and didn't like the 'o'. So it became Nitrus.

So many people think I accidentally misspelled it.
