Romance on Spooks - rednailpolish - 09-09-2009 09:04 PM

I was wondering what was your point of view on the romance storylines on the show. I personnaly love them, I think it makes the characters more human and more real, (The Adam/Ros love story is one of my favorite storyline in the show) but I think that some people don't like the love stories much and I was wondering why.
So, romance or not? And why?

If romance is done correctly on the show, then I am all for it because I enjoy seeing different aspects of the characters. However, if it something that is forced on the viewer, then I would have to say no to the romance.

I remember watching the X Files and I was always happy that they didn't try to make a romantic pair of Mulder and Scully. I mean there was tension, but I think that if they would have been romantically involved, the show would have suffered.

sorry for my ramblings

Agree with age1021, I support romance as long as it feels natural to the story and stems from the real chemistry between the characters. But it should always remain the B-plot in my opinion. This is why I loved the Harry/Ruth romance so much, as it ascribed to these criteria for me.

This is also why Tom's various liaisons began to get on my nerves, as they didn't seem to progress naturally but was forced to further some plot point. Unfortunately the Adam/Ros/Anna storyline also falls into this category for me.

Yes, I agree, if romance becomes the main thing or a majorly important part of the show then it loses the edge. I felt that Ros and Adam's romance was a little over the top, and adding Anna into the frame definitely was too much. I did think that Adam's relationships with Fiona and Jenny were realistic and believable, but others aren't. As long as it flows from the show, and is believable then it's good. I did love the Harry and Ruth pairing though because not only it was realistic, and made sense (the little moments in previous series, giving a hint that maybe they could be closer,) but because I think that it could have brought something interesting to the show, without making it too much like a soap opera. Although, we have yet to find out whether such a pairing could really be beneficial to the show, although hopefully we will soon find out!
