The American Accents are way off sometimes... - SNAFUGuy - 18-11-2011 06:47 AM

Anyone else notice that the American accents are way off sometimes? In season 8 with Genevieve O'Reilly is the most glaring. For the most part she does a good job at the accent, but when her character get's angry she slips into a Aussie accent. I wonder if only other American viewers catch on to when the actors do this? I watch a couple of other UK shows and I notice that quite a few UK actors flub on the accent, especially if it's a American regional accent. Why not just hire Americans for the job? I know that a few of the American actors in Spooks were actual Americans but even then sometimes the vernacular is off, sentence structure what not. It doesn't bother me it just really draws me out of the moment when it happens.

I agree. O'Reilly was the, THE worst.
Cringe worthy.

I'm a Yank running through the seasons. On volume 6 now. So far the American accents seem fine. In fact, most of the Americans seem to be PLAYED by Americans.

My only complaint is the rather stereotypical arrogance and bullying that seems to typify Americans in British minds. Also the somewhat paranoid "America is taking over the world" stuff. But, heck. . .it's just television. I don't get too bent over it, as "Spooks" also harpoons British MPs and makes MI-6 look like they work for another country !!

Anyone who mistakes any of this for reality is in serious trouble.
