Spoiler: show
No, it wouldn't have. We might have seen some tears though. I supect that was his endgame, but he was running out of serious time. And yes, that guy was dopey. It was like Ben and Connie - "look behind you! He behind the dawr!"

Thanks buddy Smile

Spoiler: show
killing Ruth definitely would have to be a last resort. But an incredibly effective one.

BTW JHyde you forgot to put the / in the second spoiler tag.

JHyde, you don't think if Mani
Spoiler: show
threatened Ruth Harry would have cracked? I'm not too sure about that, Harry is only human and has shown before that Ruth is his weakness. Maybe he wouldn't have given up the information, but I think he would have done something like attack Mani until they either knocked him senseless or shot him.

I don't know. Thank God we didn't find out!

RE: Sir Harry Pearce - almh - 08-11-2009 04:48 PM

Definitely - so glad that that didn't happen.

Poor old Harry -- I think he would have caved if Ruth had been directly in the crosshairs. Would have shattered his world, but he would have done it.

Wanted to mention that I really enjoy Peter Firth's performances when Harry is in funny situations. He has such a wonderfully expressive face. One of the best examples of this is in 2.6, when
Spoiler: show
Tom is bad-mouthing Christine Dale while she is standing right behind him. Harry's attempts to alert Tom to her presence is hilarious!

Oh that is funny! I'd totally forgotten that.

Something I wanted to mention is how gentlemanly Harry is. By that, I mean he retains a certain sophistication in treating others. For instance, Juliet and he share a complicated history, but he
Spoiler: show
still approves her appointment to the SIC, even after she's tried to blackmail him. In 4.4, after Youhzni has killed the prince after a directive issued by her, Harry tells her not to resign, saying, "let's make that a ground rule between us, OK?". He believes in covering for the people who should have his back, even though it's often not reciprocal. In fact he retains a certain affection for Juliet, which makes 6.8 even worse for him. Just think in 5.1 and 5.2, how gentle he is with her immediately after she's attacked, or how kind he is to the Civil Rights lawyer when they're both imprisoned.

Just as a side point, I love that bit in 5.9 when he's in the office immediately after finding out about the two killed officers, and Juliet's stalling and he says "what is it?", followed by "Juliet." The way he says that is so funny. I never fail to imitate him in this scene. Peter Firth's meant to be a bit giggly on set, and I can see this scene being a tough one to get through, especially the "So what?". His diction's so fantastic.
Kudos was very lucky to get him in this role.

You're right, for all his short-tempered outbursts and sometimes plain rudeness, Harry has an old-fashioned chivalrousness about him. I suspect this is one of the reasons many women find him so irresistible! You just know he will open doors for you, and probably be offended if you try to pay if he takes you out on a date.
