RE: [Spoilers] Sir Harry Pearce - Tea Lady - 27-01-2010 01:00 PM

Sorry but I didnt like the "Harry coat." It looked too City of London toff like for me. I like him in a plain black coat like in 5.5. Although as I have said before I think, he looked a bit of a dish in that black cotton zipped jacket in 6.8.

That Libby McCall (hope that's spelt right) chap got away from Harry though in 8.1. Isn't he as much to blame as Mani was for ruining Ruth's life again?

I think I like it because he wore it for so long. That's what makes it nice.

This is a man that can make a prison hooded shellsuit look good, after all! Just thinking about that episode gives me shivers mind you, poor Harry.

LOL. Smile That is so funny Moonlight. You are quite right though, he did.

I liked the coat, it was distinctive. But Harry looks good to me in any old coat...

I often thought of it as his Smiley coat, because it made me think of George Smiley for some reason.

It was old-fashioned and spoke to a different time, but that's Harry also -- an old war horse from a different period who's needed to re-invent ways to use his knowledge of past events in this new, technology based, terrorist environment. I liked to coat because it made him stand out.

I wonder if they had Smiley in mind with Harry, in terms of physical appearance, and also his integrity of character. I found an article about the writers of Spooks ages ago, where it said that the original writer had been inspired by John Le Carre..

And thank you Tea Lady! I just need to think of him standing up in his shellsuit, trying to maintain his dignity and saying "I can assure the Home Secretary.." and I feel like he really needs a hug!Wink

Moonlight, it's the bit where he says "hello Ros" that gets me every time. He sounds so lost and in need of a friend rather than a colleague.

Oh Lord, I'm going to get all emotional in a moment.. yes he does. I can't help thinking it's just as well that Ruth wasn't around at the time, she'd probably have broken the doors down and thwacked the interrogator with a stick to get him out...

That episode really shows his loyalty to his job over everything else. That scene where he's sitting waiting for them to come and arrest him gets me every time...

Yes totally. I often wonder whether he was thinking about Ruth at the moment. Wondering whether he should have gone with her, just disappeared with her. How ashamed though would Harry have been for Ruth to have seen him in that state?
