I'm not sure whether I want them to "live happily ever after". I think it's possible to have an ambiguous ending getting these two together without an overt slap in the face of Spooks' history. (Silktie pointed out elsewhere that bumping people off has become so de rigeur for Spooks, it's almost less shocking for them to live on.) And after all, these guys have never been like anyone else anyway, that's why we love them! We just established that!

Just watched that ep again and you're right, they have their first off-Grid "chat" outside on a bench somewhere. Harry uses Ruth as a sounding board re his worries about what's happening to Tom and asks her if she'll support him. He clearly trusts her instincts and opinions.

No. The filmed version is not available anywhere, just the script version. You'll just have to use your imagination on what PF and NW did with this that caused the producers to go: "Oh blimey, we didn't realise that scene had so much UST in it. Cut it, or we'll create an army of Harry/Ruth shippers that will not give us a moment's peace until those two declare their undying love for one another. That can never happen in Spooks - no-one must ever be happy in Spooks!" That last bit's for you, Nitrus.
By the way, I can just picture PF doing the 'goody? What's goody about it' bit!
Would have been awesome.

I understand why they cut it. (Thanks for putting it up Silktie, I went to bed.) It's also a little too much like that scene they had in 2.4 when Tom discovers she's feeding stuff to GCHQ and she says being a double is "rather exciting, actually".

Yes I undertand they didn't how it in the episode, but they could have included it in the extras
I've watched the extras of series 4 (behind the scenes, with interviews is amazing
I'm enjoying so much my "presents" form amazon ) and PF and NW speaking about HR relationship, they show a scene that's brilliant, in 4.05 (The book) Ruth calls Harry late at night because Gary (the reporter) comes to Ruth's to tell her and Harry about Clive McTagger. The phone conversation is hilarious!!! Harry's performance is wonderful!!
