I always thought it was dumb that he reprimanded her officially for that. Not only was it months after the event, but I liked how he dealt with it in the episode. Honestly, it was all she needed.

I think Harry was struggling to act objectively where Ruth was concerned by the time that episode happened. He's always been more gentle with her than with the rest of his officers, except for this incident where he overreacted. That's why I choose to believe there was an element of jealousy involved. Oh, I didn't know that he officially reprimanded her after the event, I thought that he had his few words with her at the end of the episode and that was that.

This is taken from Harry's Diary. I dont think she was reprimanded in the TV series. The Diary fills in some of the gaps.

Sorry, I have a cold from being out in the snow too long today Big Grin It is quite useful, for some bits, and quite interesting.

haha, well him reprimanding her afterwards would sound about right if he is trying to convince himself he treats her no different to the other spooks, however, anyone with eyes can see that this is not the case! Big Grin

Even more fuel to throw on the fire of this debate: in 1.4 Harry just gives Danny a stern talking-to for his credit card fraud, but doesn't give him an official reprimand. Yet Ruth gets one for the Fortesque incident. That doesn't seem fair to poor Ruth, and all that just cause Harry fancied her!Perhaps he was afraid of showing any favouritism towards Ruth because he fancied her, and then overreacted in an attempt to hide it.

That's a good point as I would have thought Danny's "crime" was traceable and Ruth's wasnt. An internal audit wouldnt have discovered that Ruth was following this Fortesque chap so surely Danny should have got the reprimand? Perhaps though this was Ruth's second chance and she blew it so Harry couldnt ignore it. She started off as the mole and I dont think she was reprimanded for that so she was given a second chance, blew that, and Harry had to come down on her.

I noticed another piece of symmetry between the old R/H and the new R/H last night when I was watching 4.05. Harry's spy friend had just died and Ruth goes into Harry's office to see if he is ok. I love this scene. When she asks him if wants to go for a drink later to talk about it, there's a beat and Harry just sits there not looking at her. It's almost like he didnt really hear her at first. This is similar to what happens in 8.6.

Didn't Danny get punished by having to talk to the new recruits? I thought that was his punishment?
