Article in the Times today written by Stephen Garrett from Kudos. Its about "why we love TV's anti heroes."

He mentions Lucas and Spooks. I have cut and pasted these two bits as the article is quite long but also put a link in.

Who are your TV heroes and heroines? Which, if you could have another life, would you want to be? George Clooney’s maverick doctor in ER, Martin Sheen’s heart-on-sleeve President in The West Wing, or Richard Armitage’s intense and unpredictable agent in Spooks, produced by my company, Kudos? They are all pretty much on the side of the angels. .....

.....And finally, our Spooks, MI5 agents who in the name of some higher moral calling of their own imagining have cheerfully engaged in torture, extraordinary rendition and treason. Yet, episode in, episode out, they remain heroes for their huge audiences......

Excellent article! How do we examine and, hopefully, understand the moral ambiguity prevalent in the late 20th/early 21st century? We take to heart tv heroes who are not totally good and villains who are not fully evil -- they represent the new reality of our world and, quite honestly, are closer to our everyday experience than the white hats and the black hats ever were.
