This is why I wished Ros never left and was still here, if she had been, this atrocity would have never happened because Ros would have smacked Lucas for all his stupidities! UndecidedDodgy

I miss Ros!Sad

I think you misunderstand - this storyline never would have worked or had even been written had Ros still been on the show. It would make even less sense than it did with the old dynamic of the show.

No I didn't misunderstand, that was what I was meaning. I was trying to say that if Ros had been on the show, this storyline wouldn't exist because it simply would not work at all. And I still believe even if they had written it, I'd rather have Ros just shoot Lucas for his stupidity!

I didn't like Ros much in five or six (though I wonder if how I felt about her would change upon a rewatch?) but absolutely loved her in seven and eight.

I really liked her sardonic wit and the way she and Lucas seemed to work really well as a team.

re Ros being around for Jucas in series nine, someone made this really interesting blog post about how Lucas always needed someone to tell him what to do and when Ros went, he lost the plot precisely because he didn't have someone telling him what to do anymore. I'm not saying I agree entirely, but I do think there is something in that Smile

But even Ros got not have helped Lucas, no one could, because the storyline was he murder 17 innocent people by blowing up a British Embassy without any apparent reason. There was no way Ros could have changed things, other than as BravoNine suggests, shooting him before he jumped.

Blithe Spirit only got 2 out of 5 stars in the Guardian. Sad

On the plus side HN got a good write up.

Im off to see it in 2 weeks. I feel a little nonplussed now. Can't decide whether I'm still looking forward to it.

This review reminded me of the difference between reading a good book for pleasure and pulling it apart in an English Lit class. The reviewer obviously knows a lot more than me about the writing style of Coward and what it all means, but I just took the play on surface value and enjoyed it enormously. I wasn't the only person laughing when I saw it.

I think you have a point there watchstrap. I will be taking it at face value. If you are comparing it to everything that ever went before it, then you will always find fault, no matter how good the current version is. I am now looking forward to it again.
