Thank you, kirmostar for finding out all that information about the tattoos: quite fascinating stuff. Brilliant work.

..And JHyde: you have gotto be kidding? (About the shoe heel and urine tattoo ink!!)

I'm really not. I'm been reading some stuff about the Russian mafia for a piece I'm working on and came across that frightening tidbit of information,

Well we know that RA likes to pay attention to detail and is big on accuracy but I doubt he would let anyone cover him in urine and powdered shoe heel!!! Big Grin

OK I'm just about admitting defeat on the right wrist letters. I'm pretty sure it's the Russian characters for D, L and X but that means absolutely nothing in any language unless you translate into Roman Numerals and you get 560 - which also means nothing!! (Bangs head against workstation in frustration) Anyone have any other ideas?

I think we should try and contact the makeup artist who does them. They're most likely to know! Although whether they'd know or care about the meaning, I'm not sure.

Put me in room with RA I wouldn't want to appear like some sort of tattoo geek, I'd probably take a boiler suit with me and chance my luck..........Big Grin

I emailed a copy of the picture to my friend whose husband is learning Russian. He didn't know what it was but said this:

"Looking at the picture I have assumed that the letters are ВЯХ although it is difficult to be sure on the first letter as it has an leading link on the lower left which В does not normally have. The letters are from the Russian printed script and not the written script. As it ends with an Х it has to be a masculine noun but not one that I can find in the dictionary. It could be an abbreviation but again it is not a common one."

I've tried running ВЯХ through google, and although it comes up in sentances I can't get it to work in an online translator.

Thank you Snowball and your husband's friend.
I think the leading link he sees it's just the ink or whatever material they use to draw the tattoos, that 'moved' downwards (couldn't find the proper word in the dictionary Dodgy)when RA flexed his wrist. I remember seeing the tattoo 'stained' when he flexed his wrist, then look harder to confirm it but the camera angle didn't catch it again. So IMO, we can be sure the first letter is a B.

A little bit OT: Kirmostar, I know if you ever were in a room with RA the last thing you would be doing is talking about tattoos. Now, inspecting them....is another matter Wink
