A rather intriguing first post Scarlet. Are you a mole????

Ha, no. I really can't reveal my sources but lets just say I 'hear' things every now and then through the grapevine. From my limited intelligence at this stage Smile, I understand series 10 is in the pipeline although it has not been officially confirmed or commissioned yet.

OMG!! I'm stunned, that are great news. I think the need to know if there will be a series 10 before/while writing series 9, because if series 9 were the last series, they sould have a closed ending...

BTW, welcome to the forum Scarlet, you could introduce yourself in the Break Room section if you want Wink

I am keeping myself going through this time of uncertainty, by telling myself that they have not announced season 9 officially because they are negotiating with several high profile actors to join the existing cast of spooks!!! David Tennant is my favourite delusion at the moment!!

Came across an article in The Gaurdian with Stephen Garrett, creater of Kudos, talking about the rising costs of making quality dramas. The most interesting line for me spooks wise was when he talked about the "gap between BBC tariff and cost for series nine, now in production". This seems to be as official a confirmation of series 9 of spooks we are likely to get.

Thanks Aria. I was literally just reading that article online. Its on the Guardian website if anyone wants to read it. Its a little angst though although its not a new story that the BBC is struggling with its funding. I was surprised that Spooks costs £900,000 per episode. With a funding gap of 20% though I hope the BBC review which is ongoing will address that. At least the issue is being raised now so hopefully it will be sorted by the time a decision needs to be made about series 10. I thought the point about the BBC i-player was interesting. Stephen Garrett was saying why do the BBC put Spooks on i-player for free? It loses them DVD sales which they really need because of the funding gap!

Anyway, its good to hear the money appears to be there for series 9. I think that is the best we can hope for in the current economic climate.

How much are the actors paid per episode?

Is anyone on here sufficiently knowledgeable about the BBC to know how much they would get for selling Spooks/Hustle etc to the Virgin/Sky channels? Hardly a day passes without one series or another of Hustle being shown on Alibi/Watch etc., and they've shown all the Spooks series several times over the years.

For the main cast, would depend on the actor (where they fit into the pecking order, how long they've been on the show, how good an agent they have, etc.). There's probably a straight scale payment for extras.

I don't think the actors are paid for re-runs either, so it wouldn't cost the BBC much to lease it to other networks.
