I possibly agree with the first part, maybe not so much with the Harry/Connie theory Tongue

Nice to see this thread happening again. I forget about it, but I love it.

Seem to remember when the new actors were publicised for Series 9 a BBC spokesperson said these new additions would ruffle a few feathers so that could be because one of them gets to be Section Chief over Lucas and anyway, he was such an emotional wreck in Series 8 Harry should think twice about placing him in such a stressful job. I think Lucas would be an obvious suspect in any double dealings but in the end turn out to be a misunderstood hero!

I personally think that Lucas will be made Section Chief and maybe a dynamic of the new season will be to what extent does Harry trust him?

Reviving this thread a bit because I just wanted to add something.

I think that Lucas won't be appointed Section Chief because of the liability issues he could cause. I do wish that he was made the SC but don't think he will be. That and remember when Lucas got back to the Grid in 7.1? He asks Harry how Tom worked out. A lot of this saw this as a shout out to the Spooks past and loyal fans who'd recognize the name but maybe there was something more there? Like 'hey, how'd the guy who you chose over me for the SC job go'? And then if Harry passes him up for the job again their relationship will become more complex...

And to people saying that Harry couldn't have been involved with Lucas' capture perhaps it was like his friends death in Ireland that was mentioned in Series 1, in the last or second last episode. Perhaps Harry was close by/could've done something about Lucas' capture but didn't/couldn't/wouldn't?

Great first post, ettubrute (also, awesome username). I'm not sure Lucas was ever passed over for Section Chief in favour of Tom though, although going by Harry's Diary Tom had held his top job since the mid nineties.

I like your theory about Lucas' capture though. Definitely one of the more plausible explanations.

I don't know how I feel about Lucas as a Section Chief. I blow hot and cold with it. There are good arguments and good members arguing both sides.

Hi ettubrute. Do we actually know where Lucas was captured? Was it Russia or was it in the UK, and then he was taken to Russia?

I am one of those members that doesn't feel that Lucas would make a good Section Chief. He goes off radar too often, to be a good example to other junior officers. He also get's too emotionally involved and dare I say it, is damaged goods from his 8 years in prison. Anyway this is all academic as Ros will be in S9, even if she has green face paint on and is wearing a space suit, after rushing back from Outcasts filming. Smile Smile

I'm pretty sure that in 7.1, Arkady says that Lucas was captured in Moscow. Almost positive, but I haven't watched season 7 in quite some time.

Yeah, he did -- something about what a phenomenal price Harry paid when he sent Lucas to Moscow.

I think what he said was, "When you sent Lucas to Moscow, he paid an appalling price."

I find the relationship between Harry and Lucas to be quite interesting. You can tell that in a lot of ways, Harry is still incredibly protective of Lucas, at times even acting like a father scolding his son rather than a team leader punishing a subordinate. Out of all his people, Lucas has gotten much more free-reign from Harry than most, but I think a part of Harry doesn't want to crowd Lucas too much so that Lucas can feel at least that he's back in control of his life again.

There is no doubt Lucas is damaged goods to put it bluntly, but I really really hope that there won't be a future episode where Lucas is revealed to be really a double agent, as much as it is likely, I rather think it would ruin the character. Sure Lucas has always skirted the lines between good and evil, but he has come through for MI5 and Harry each time needed, I really don't want that to be taken away. I know he blames Harry for his imprisonment in Moscow, but I like to think that deep down, a part of Lucas knows that Harry would never just betray him.

I'm not sure if Lucas is Section Chief material, but then again, it was apparently his post before Tom Quinn took over, so who's to say he can't do it again. Bringing in a newbie as Section Chief may not go over well.

I hope Series 9 can put an end to the whole Is-Lucas-Evil thing, I really want to see that close bond between Harry and Lucas, they've already shown how far they would go to save one another, it's time for the duo to go back to the way it use to be.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Lucas - JHyde - 10-07-2010 07:08 AM

Welcome, BravoNine and great first post.

I don't think Lucas was Section Chief before he left, that's just something that ended up on his wiki page. Tom was definitely Section Head in the late nineties/2000, at least according to the spin off publications.

I think Harry has been keeping him on a tighter leash than Tom but he is definitely more forgiving of Lucas. And so he should be. As you say, it's a terrific dynamic.

I would be very angry if we find out that Lucas is double agent or even something along the lines of Ros in season 6. Actually, if anyone we know is. Silktie put it nicely elsewhere where she said that Connie's treachery is a tough act to follow and frankly, almost impossible to better.
