[spoilers] Lucas as Section Chief - LucasNorth#1 - 24-12-2009 11:38 AM

Can anyone see Lucas being reinstated by Harry as Section Chief? And does anyone know much about him from when he held that position before?

Um, from what I've seen I'm amazed Harry keeps Lucas around. If anyone else defied his orders as much as Lucas, they'd be out on their bum.

Two things:

I totally agree with bertowud on the subject of this thread. Much as I love Lucas, he's been a bloody loose cannon this last season.

Also, I noticed that on the wiki page for his character and checked every article they referenced and could find no evidence that Lucas was, in fact, section chief before he was captured in Russia. I would be very interested as to where that originated.

I heard that Tom replaced him when he was taken in Russia. (Don't know where i heard it though).

I personally wouldn't like to see him in that position. I just don't think it would fit.

Although saying that it would also be rather tricky to do another Adam replaces Tom and get somebody else to fill in Ros' position as section head. Partly because there wouldn't really be a switchover (If Ros leaves due to 8.8) and partly because it's highly likely that whoever they got would betray Harry and the group and it would require more shuffling of job roles etc... and as a result, time-wasting.

It's a tough one to call really.

Maybe Lucas is Harry's illegitimate son and that's why he tolerates his insubordination. Tongue

Lucas has made some pretty bad decisions, but you could have said the same thing about Ros before Series 7.

I can't see the show bringing in a new character to take over as Section Chief. I'm pretty sure it'll be Lucas.

Lucas can't really be section chief can he ?
He pretty emotionally unstable, which is fine providing you're not in charge. He has been in a Russian jail for 8 years, surely some doubt will always remain concerning his loyalty. And he doesn't follow orders particularly well which again he could not get away with if he was section chief.
I think Lucas prefers the freedom of being a field officer and following his own plans and decisions.

RE: [spoilers] Lucas as Section Chief - Adam Carter - 25-12-2009 05:49 AM

I don't think anyone on the grid can question his loyalty after proving his worth over the past two series. He could've taken the easy way out and fled with Sarah, but he didn't. His loyalty to the country and to MI-5 was too strong. If Lucas wasn't loyal he would've cracked during the whole FSB saga. Sure, he made some pretty bad decisions regarding Sarah, but I think it was a lesson he needed to learn. After spending 8 years in prison, he was thrilled to finally fall back in love and be with someone who cared about him. It clouded his judgment. But I think Lucas will be at a much different place personally now that this has settled.

Plus, I go back to the Ros issue. If Ros was deemed fit to be Section Chief, even after the Yalta fiasco, then why not Lucas? In some respects, he's very similar to Tom and Adam. There were many occassions where those two went off script and decided to take a different route and it ended up being the right call. I don't see Lucas as being any different.

What's wrong with Lucas as Chief? I do believe despite the emotional meltdown, he has learned his lesson and that this will make him a stronger leader.
Adam had meltdowns all the time, but he was a good team leader. So why not Lucas?
