RE: Episode 1 Discussion [Rewatch] - Kirayuki - 10-01-2010 04:47 PM

I thought Danny was being tested for the joker in this episode. He seemed to have too many 'funny' lines. I also think he should have been done for gross misconduct over the comms. As i wrote in my review:

Saiyamar K's Log Wrote:I feel that Danny gives out a few too many 'funny lines' in this episode. I think it may just be me but it fels like they were trying his character out as the joker somewhat to see how it worked. Admittedly a few are good like this one, “Foreign Office, get out the Garlic”, but later in the episode he speaks as if he's on the radio over the comms and refers to himself as "DJSpookman"! Surely this is not only completely un-funny but a huge misconduct with communications, as he essentially says, 'looky here, we're spooks on this frequency!' Oh god Danny what did they do to you?

If you want to read it all it's there. Tongue

I actually didn't notice this until you mentioned it. I put it down to Danny being the new guy on the block and trying too hard to fit in. And as for what he said on the comms, those comms are supposed to be secure so no-one else will be able to hear, so it doesn't matter what he says on that frequency really. Besides, is what he said any worse than hearing some weird codename such as Alpha One? You'd know immediately it's not just normal people talking when they start using codenames.

I think it suited Danny being the joker. He was brimming with confidence on the comms and may have gone a little OTT but that was probably to do with his excitment of being allowed out of the Grid to show his stuff. Also I think he was trying to lighten the mood a little as Zoe was so evidently worried about this assignment and that she wouldnt have any back-up if it went wrong.

I loved that they tackled the problem of the religiously insane. Glad no one has mentioned my favorite line yet. Tom: "The worst part of my job is having to listen to your sanctimonious drivel" or words to that effect.

Before I forget, I didn't watch again but have a lingering question from my first viewing. The last scene where a motorcycle pulls beside a car in a tunnel. I assume one of the bad guys got it. Could someone lay it out for me as I wasn't sure and can't even remember who it was but it was someone I hated and needed killing.

I had already seen Macfadyen before but want to mention how cool it is the way his lips move when he talks.

Ellie was a restauranteur so her schedule was probably worse than Tom's. (I mentioned this in some other thread.) I didn't care for the pairing but it did help to establish the dating problems of spies. And as I've said before, once you find out that your sig other is a spy, either deal with it or scram. Don't rank your Saturday afternoon lunch above the rest of the people with whom you share a country.

It was Osbourne (nasty racist man) being assassinated by someone, the hit was ordered by Harry in revenge to Helen's death, despite the Home Office telling him not to. Big Grin

Thanks, anyway, back to Episode 1:

This was also the first episode we saw Christine.. and I have to say:

Spoiler: show
I still prefer her (and her accent) to Christine 2.0

I posted a response but it disappeared. I'll see if it shows up later before I try again. I spoiler tagged it.

Christine Dale wasn't badly introduced in this episode. She ws played nicely and gave the right impressions to the audience. She wasn't overbearing, her accent is fine... I actually quite like her character despite what some people might say.

I liked CD's white coat. That's all I liked about her.
