I agree with you Silktie, that these things could have been edited out, and were not some H/R scenes added after the final filming, if I remember correctly. Therefore I believe they must be thinking of taking the relationship somewhere.

Didnt NW tell someone that scenes were added in? I think the tears in the wind scene was one of those. I know it's blowing a gale up there but NW's hair looks about two inches longer in that scene, than it did in the office scene with Harry a few moments before, IMO.

That scene in particular does feel out of place, as much as I like it. So why put in such a scene if the writers aren't going to take R/H storyline further.

Sorry but I just can't see Harry being happy, content and all smiles. It's his lonely existence that makes for such an endearing character and since it's Spooks, not Mills&Boon, the relationship wouldn't necessarily go in the direction of romance. It could be they are just putting in teasers to get everyone thinking that's the way it will develop. The tension and suspense builds when the unexpected happens.

Aww, so poor Harry is doomed to a lonely, miserable existence forever then...Tongue

I have a slightly different perspective on how things would go if they decide to get Harry and Ruth together. I don't think Harry is suddenly going to undergo a personality transplant and be all happy - he'll still be the same Harry he's always been at work: loathing bad guys, politicians, injustice, and fools and incompetence in general. The only thing that will change will be his one-on-one interaction with Ruth. And Spooks will never be a show where half of each episode is going to be devoted to showing Harry & Ruth in domestic bliss or skipping hand-in-hand across grassy meadows. So we'll get maybe one or two scenes per episode showing Harry trying to be a normal human being with Ruth, and perhaps even crack a smile once in a while.

Sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh at that. The idea of an episode of Spooks finishing with that scene and then freezing in black & white LOL.

So, episode 3.9 is arguably the time when it became obvious there was something brewing between Harry and Ruth. Their interactions were absolutely wonderful. Loved Ruth grilling poor Harry until he didn't know which way to turn. His discomfort and defensiveness in that scene is hilarious.

Also loved his reaction when he realised that Ruth was indirectly admitting that she would miss him during the pacing scene - he looked like a little boy that got the best Christmas present ever.

Is this also possibly the first time we see Harry defending his morally questionable actions to Ruth? When she expresses doubt over whether they had the right to involve the daughter, he takes the time to answer her, in effect saying they had no other option.

And that last scene is possibly my all-time favourite HR scene. There is so much going on in the subtext of that scene, and the wonderful looks they share. Plus Harry's attempt at a joke in calling Ruth back, and his delighted laugh at her response, echoes some of the aspects of their first meeting. Sigh, great stuff.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - Aria - 23-05-2010 02:51 PM

Loved 3.9 as it became very clear that there was something between Harry and Ruth. Loved Harry asking Ruth for her help, tapping the chair to indicate that he wants her to sit was brilliant. Ruth really took to her role as interrogator and poor Harry must have been well prepared for the actual interview (they probably gave him an easier time than Ruth had done). Smile

Loved the pacing scene when Ruth admitted that she watches him, his smile when she leaves is great. And like Silktie I also thought the ending was brilliant with Harry's laugh and poor Danny wondering what the hells going on!!

P.S Like your new avatar Silktie.

Oh yes, I totally love the "pacing" scene. I can watch it again and again and I still have a big grin on my face. Harry seems to be a little irritated first of all, or is pretending to be irritated, and then can't help himself with a little flirty comment that catches Ruth out. Ruth then can't help it and her mouth runs away with her and before she knows it, she has paid him a lovely compliment. Harry's smile after she walks out is so lovely. I agree Silktie, he looks like such a little boy. (Will try not to use words love or lovely again in this post.)

As for the end scene, it probably isn't in my top R/H five scenes but it is still lovely (heck.) Harry really wants to share his news with Ruth and waits until the Grid is almost empty. Harry also seems a tad disappointed when Ruth says she is going out. I note that Ruth doesnt put him at ease by saying it's a girlfriend she's meeting though. (I think i read that somewhere or perhaps I have read too much fanfic.) Wink

It is really the first overt sign for me that Ruth has feelings for Harry that go beyond friendship.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth Strike Back - SPOOK91 - 23-05-2010 10:20 PM

I agree that this is the first time that she seems to show some kind of feeling other than friendship for Harry, I think we have seen some signs from him before this point though, however Ruth seems to be a less open person than Harry in some ways.

I think as for her not clarifying if it was a man she was meeting, I think Ruth thought that there was no way that he felt the same way as her and so wouldn't think to clarify as as far as she is aware he isn't concerned about who she is socialising with.
