All computers boot up immediately, open at exactly the right application and shutting the lid on a laptop shuts it down immediately.

You can change the settings on your laptop to stop it shutting down; go to hardware and sound -> power options -> system settings. Alternatively, if you run Vista, click on "Change battery settings" and then a link for "Choose what closing the lid does" should appear on the left-hand side. Hope that helps!

Can't remember if I've posted this before but I've learned that everywhere in London is a maximum of 10 minutes by car from Thames House.
