Nah, I'm not too good at the whole imagination stuff. I just chuck out ideas until I find a good one. Wink

Quote: I can't remember which episode, or even which series but, the scene where Harry channeled James Bond in the shower scene from Casino Royale was hilarious. If we see any references to Batman in series 9, we know who to blame.
??? Harry channelled James Bond? Why do I always feel like I'm on a different planet when I read this thread?...

I only watched each episode once (except the episode where Lucas returns) so I'm not sure which it was but early on someone said to Harry, "You're no James Bond." Awhile later, he had to put his arm around someone to comfort and nonchalantly loosened his tie, as Daniel Craig did in Casino Royale. It was one of the few laughs in the whole series. Actually, I can't remember any other laughs at this time.

edit to add--my spell checker didn't like "ll" in channelled so I went with one. I just checked the dictionary and both ways are acceptable. I get really embarrassed with grammar errors.

The comics. Mostly I'm giving JHyde a hard time.

Just trying to stamp out any more coup attempts before they start and keep us on topic. Wink We need some smilies with a goattee.

We also need an evil knife-wielding one for when Nitrus threatens to kill off Harry/Ruth...

Is the comic series still running? I never really got into Batman, saw the last film, that's it.

The comics will be running long after you and I are dead and gone unless something drastic were to happen to the world.

At the moment, Bruce Wayne (the real Batman) is dead. Dick Grayson (the first Robin) is Batman. Bruce's bastard child with one of his nemeses' daughter, Damian, is Robin.

Jason Todd, the second Robin who had been killed by the Joker isn't dead anymore (only in comics and soap operas) is Dick's arch nemesis, The Red Hood. Most of the Batman comic fans hated Jason when he was Robin, so they had a telephone contest to decide whether to kill him or not. By 28 votes it was voted to kill him off, so the Joker blew him up.

The third Robin, Tim Drake, is running around in a different costume using the alias Red Robin searching for Bruce whom Tim is convinced is still alive (yeah, still only in comics and soap operas).

The original Batgirl (Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner Gordon) was shot and paralyzed by the Joker in the mid/late 1980's is the super hero hacker Oracle.

There have been a few other Batgirls over the years, and even I can't keep up with all of them. There's a new one who was Tim Drake's girlfriend and later the fourth Robin, until she died. She's better now too (Comics and Soaps again*).

To steer myself back closer to being on topic, the reason I compare Harry to Batman has more to do with the fact that Batman is prepared for almost any situation and a ruthless tactician. He also has plans to not only take down all of his enemies if necessary, but he also has plans for how to take down his friends (He currently has the only piece of Kryptonite on the planet just in case his best friend Superman gets out of hand).

*Maybe my mom watching soap operas when I was a little kid had something to do with me reading comics. It's really her fault. Hmmm.....

Well, I just said something similar in a conversation with bertowud, so I might as well say it here. One of the things good comics and Spooks have in common is that the heroes aren't saintly and that the bad guys aren't always straight villains. I like narratives where the characters are more complex, because life and death decisions aren't always so clear cut.

So it's not such a far out comparison, Harry and Batman.

I agree with you JHyde, heroes do have to have a degree of bad in them to achieve anything in todays world, and we all secretly like it, as they do what we can't(both Harry and Batman). Villians on the other hand, whilst being deep, dark and mysterious(scary always helps)...... just have to be villains. Anything more than that gets too complicated for me.

RE: Harry's like Batman - JHyde - 20-11-2009 01:41 AM

I meant more the villains of Spiderman and X-Men, and The Riddler to a lesser extent.

I have admit that I'm not too current on either Marvel or DC releases and I suppose villains have moved on quite a bit since I was. That's what getting old does for you, no more reading comics......God I miss them!

Not true. I'm old. I have the X-Men from the beginning of the Byrne era (around 1978) through until about two years ago without missing an issue.

Marvel's actually digitizing their library, so one could actually eventually have access to their entire history for a subscription online.

I actually go into Spooks through comics. More on that later though.

And maybe Juliet is Harry's Joker.
