I don't know where you would find the shirts but I got a coat like Harry's from the last series here:

Not cheap, but I get lots of favourable comments.

I wonder if just wetting his lips with the whisky would prevent any harm? I prefer the explanation put before - that he slipped a mickey in when we (and the HS) weren't looking.

That jacket is sexy. Thanks for the link, I've added it to my shopping list. Need to save for it though, but they say a good overcoat should last you a lifetime!

I'm with fellow fashionista John Spook on the subject of Harry's shirts. As an establishment figure, Harry has very little leeway with his look, and those shirts demonstrate that little bit of individuality. Clearly what makes him so attractive to Ruth! She was a bit of a misery tonight, though. They should move in together and give it a try- he could help her out with her wardrobe!

Everyone in the City has a coat like Harry's new one, but they look rather weird when worn outside the square mile, imo.

OK...just finished watching 9.1 on "a site that shall not be named" OMG...this is truly the greatest show ever made!

I thought I was gonna lose my mind in the first 10 minutes...before they even ran the opening credits!

Favourite scene hands down...Harry & old HS! So awesome! When Nicholas Blake mentions about the gloves and he realizes so fantastic! The only thing other thing I wanted Harry to do was hit NB while he was down for calling Ruth at b****! But that would not be Harry's style would it!

Had a few outbursts at the laptop - the first person shot on the boat, the second person shot on the boat, Ruth's no, Harry's resignation letter, etc.

Question....were those supposed to be Ros' parents? I could see that being her mother, but isn't her dad supposed to be still in prison?

Like Dimitri & Beth so far! Looking forward to 9.2!

Still reeling a bit from this amazing episode. Will need to watch again tomorrow. However, I believe that this is the very first time we have seen stark naked fear on Lucas' face that appears when he encounters Vaughn and stays there through the entire encounter. Please don't destroy my Lucas! Loved the line that went something like "what we experience makes or mars us"...WOW.

Well they definitely did not leave us wanting for things to pick up speed this series, did they? I too had some gasps and rage at points, only to be tempered by the resulting events.

Favorite line? "So the country will have to struggle on without pornography and minesweeper for a couple hours? Do it."

Dimitri, I'm behind. Beth, while I like the actress, so far doesn't seem to be anything like Ros, Jo, or Zoe - like Harry said, a different kind of people.

WOW. Just wow! Great opening. Classic Spooks stuff that. First at the "proposal" then at Harry/Blake. Heart stopping and chilling in the space of a few minutes. I will miss Robert Glenister though. SRB though is one of the best actors of his generation (IMHO), so I am looking forward to how he is going to screw the team and/or Harry over.

I loved Blake calling Ruth a "doggedly brilliant bitch" which, considering he was dying because of her brilliance, to me, a backwards compliment is not so surprising. Wink Esp. b/c he was the one who helped clear her name upon Harry's request. Hmm...ironic.Tongue

I totally understood why Ruth refused Harry both times. Is this really the resolution of H and R? I am not so sure, but am thrilled they didn't take the happily ever after ending. The rest I shall save for the H/R thread.

Glad to see Tariq got a shirt with a collar at least. Cool But more so that he is an indispensible addition to the grid. I hope he gets more development.

I really dug Max Brown and am wondering how he understood the pirates? He speaks more languages than just greek. I wonder why?

Beth is sufficiently cocky. I think she has potential as a very intriguing character.

But mostly, Lucas' past should prove interesting and I am really looking forward to the unraveling of his character. It is too long in coming.

My only problem is I did not arm myself with nearly enough "highly quaffable" scotch by my side! I am going to get more and watch it again!

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Woah, the S9 opener was a stunner! There's so much to take in! Are enjoying reading everyone's enthusiastic responses to it. The dialogue was back to top form (something that was missing somewhat throughout S8, I thought). The reading from Ruth in the opening scene was lovely.. I think Malcolm would have approved Smile Matt Brown was very strong in his role I felt. I think Harry was right, too, about needing new blood like Beth, she will be an interesting one to watch. I can't wait for next week!

Good start, I thought. There was some great scenes in this episode, and like many of you, I'd have to say my favourite was the Harry/old HS one. Absolutely fantastic. I thought Harry put the glass to his lips but didn't drink any of it. Loved how Blake realised what was going on the moment he noticed Harry still had his gloves on.

So Lucas is really a John? Interesting. I wonder if Vaughn really had a stroke or if he's just pretending? And whatever could be in that suitcase?

I like Beth and Dimitri, but especially Beth. She's a straight talker, isn't she? That's probably what impressed Harry enough to offer her a job. And her 'thank you' to Lucas when he gives her a few quid to get home was hilarious.

Poor Harry. It's a bloody wonder he hasn't had a breakdown before now, with everything he's been through. I really liked his line of not wanting to feel like he's covered in blood all the time anymore. I think it's very telling. It'll be interesting to see if the writers continue with this storyline for Harry, or whether he's gotten it out of his system now. He still seemed very unsettled in that last scene with Ruth, so maybe it will continue.

So Harry and Ruth can only be together through work? That sucks, blows and stinks. Not sure I understand Ruth's reasoning here. At least give the guy a hug at some stage, Ruth!

Fantastic opener. Such a promising start to the season. A few things of note:

I thought it was refreshingly realistic to see the deaths starting to take their toll on Harry. With all of the officers who have come and gone, you finally got to see Harry reflect on the sheer body count that's built up around him. Double points for this being sparked by Ros's death, specifically. I really think Harry saw Ros as something of a daughter.

I really don't know what to make of the Lucas situation. Clearly, being thrust into the role of leader represents a new challenge for him, but now that his past is being put into question again I'm not sure I fully understand what they're trying to do with him. Though, it does offer a nice change of pace to have a Section Chief whose moral standing isn't so clear.

Nice to see Tariq still humming along. We still have no real sense of his character, though.

Ruth was outstanding as usual, and I'm glad to see they're digging deeper into the relationship. Again, Harry's proposal was sudden, yet realistic, and Ruth's hesitation was perfectly captured by Nicola.

One of the big concerns heading into the season had to be the introduction of Dmitri and Beth. But both shined admirably in their debuts. I would've liked to have seen Dmitri again after leaving the ship, but he came across as a strong, determined officer. A nice addition.

I love what Beth brings to the show. In many ways, she's the huge wildcard Ros was when she first arrived. But I loved her sense of humor, and she's already got a terrific chemistry with Lucas.

All in all, a rock solid first hour. A lot of questions to be answered, and it'll be interesting to see how the team comes together in their first operation as a unit. But the fact that we have an actual TEAM this year, and not the Ros and Lucas show of Series 8, leaves me a happy Spooks fan.
