Love the Joni Mitchell song Both Sides Now but it is hardly cheery. Gets you thinking though.

Me? I'm a bit of a humbug. Perhaps because I dont have children. My husband and I are arguing about who is going to put the Christmas tree up this year at the moment (I told you, humbug.) My husband usually works at Christmas but this year he is off so we are trotting along to his parents which is about an hour away, where his sister and nephews will join us. It will be fine just so long as someone has got me Spooks season 7 on DVD which I put on my Christmas list. Yes I will try and cheer up about it. Perhaps thats why I have stayed clear of this thread until now. Sorry.

It's OK. This thread was a way of me dealing with loving Christmas right up until the day itself and then disavowing it Smile

RE: Spooky Holidays
Tea Lady, you're remark about the tree sparked something. Actually a couple of things.

My wife makes me help her put up the decorations every year. It's not something I enjoy any more. It is nice when they're up though. I make it a point to give her all of the credit when people say nice things about the decorations.

Also, when I was about the age of my son, I used to help my grandmother put up her Christmas tree. It wasn't a real tree. It was a plastic molded tree. It had one 100 watt bulb inside and had pegs similar to what you find in a Lite Brite that you put in holes in the tree to simulate lights. It's really cheesy, but it was something special. I actually have that tree, but we don't put it out.

Always love your country, but never trust your government.

I feel that way about "It's a Wonderful Life" -- cheesy trash! My family loves it though. If it's on the tube on Christmas day, it's usually playing in the background.

Yeah I'll go with that. Cheesy, cheesy Capra!!

I always thought it was funny that in The OC they used to watch Over the Top - great choice for Christmas Day.

I never have understood what the appeal is but it's a Christmas staple in the US.

(Congrats JHyde -- you just hit 1,000 posts!)

RE: Spooky Holidays
I prefer Mr Smith Goes to Washington. The only Capra I really like. But yeah, I know it's one of those movies they play over and over again durng holiday season.

(Thanks, I was trying to get a good one on Harry for my 1000th but I thought stuff it.)
