Curious to hear what people think post Series 9.

Well, they have brought in two new officers, haven't they, but i feel they were seriously underused this season. I don't have the feeling I know who they really are, all we know from them is that Beth applied before, was rejected and became a mercenarie and Dmitri was SBS, has greek roots, swam with sharks and has a cheerful disposition Wink. We know little or nothing about their characters or backstory.
All was sacrificed to focus on the Lucas/John story and that story was seriuos crap, IMO.
I feel like this whole S9 has been needless in terms of characterdevelopment, the only ones that moved a bit forward were Ruth and Harry. Beth and Dmitri felt like 'gridfilling' too me and what they managed to do with Lucas, well ... Thcussing.

hmm well i wasnt inpressed with him as section chief. in my head the role is to encorage the new reruits (in lucas's case this was beth and dimitri) to help mold them into how they want the team to be. and this was not the case with lucas. he was to caught up in his own drama from the get go. even Ros helped other officers especialy Jo. i just think he got the job because there was no one else to do it ;(

Personally this is the writers' fault, they could have easily made Lucas into a good section chief, but instead they decided to sacrifice it to make a loopy and idiotic Lucas storyline about him fussing over another love interest and getting too deep into his own messed-up personal life.

He did show small moments of when he did try to help out and look after the new recruits, but it was all overwhelmed and overshadowed under all this Lucas-Is-John storyline. It just overtook everything to the point everything just exploded and left everyone else with the WTF feeling.

Lucas got Section Chief because since he was the most senior agent on the team, it was bound to end up with him. And for the early episodes of the series he actually did well. He took care of his team, made sure they were okay, he got the job done. But he was never given a chance to show the full extent of his abilities as this Lucas-Is-John storyline started to take over and everything just went pear-shaped afterwards.

i dont know i think that they detracted to much from his main role into his ultimate end. i dont think it was ras fault at all its without a doubt the writers but i missed the interaction with the team.

I agree with BravoNine on this.
Lucas could have made a great section chief, he showed genuine concern both towards Dmitri (on that ship) and towards Beth (episode 9.2), though he didn't trust her completely.
But due to the Lucas/John story we didn't had a chance to see more of his abilities as section chief!

RE: [spoilers] Lucas as Section Chief
I really feel we needed a whole series with Lucas as Section Chief, so that the team could build up trust and understanding. They didn't have time to behave as a strong team who trusted each other.
It was interesting that Lucas had to think about accepting the position of Section Chief, rather than taking to job straight away. And even then only apparently took it so that he could access Vaughn's file.

Lucas 8.4: It's all about trust, isn't Harry ?.

Seconded. Lucas could have made a fabulous Section Chief. Well, the Lucas of S7 could have. His character was pretty much tipped down the drain after that Sad
