NYE and the following day are traditionally the really hot days too, they were probably the hottest days we've had so far but it has actually been a pretty mild summer so far. So they got lucky.

And Australia/New Zealand are the first in the English speaking/western world to turn the year. For those who want to be on the leading edge, that's the place to be. Outside of the fact that it would be really cool to go to the beach on New Years Day. I still have two feet of snow!

I think that it was mentioned that there were 1 million people in Times Square last night. No fireworks though.
