The sweetest thing is how her father and William kept asking her if she was OK. What a surreal experience this must have been for her!

I think part of the reason that this has resonated in the US so strongly is partly because of the tradition and ceremony. Seriously, my British cousins, no one does it as well as you do! Also, we have the luxury of enjoying it from a very pure perspective without any politics involved at all. But most importantly, Americans love the optimism of a "Local Girl Makes Good" story. It feeds into every stereotype of "being American" there is.

From a personal aspect, I think the reason it caught my imagination was that is was something positive to see for once. I was the same way with the rescue of the Chilean miners for the same reason.
