Silk series 2 is starting on the BBC in a few weeks; it's a programme about barristers in chambers in London. The main characters are played by Maxine Peake and Rupert Penry Jones. I really liked the first series, the plot is very dramatic and follows a 'story of the week' format with and underlying plot running throughout. It's definetly a good watch for any RPJ fans.

The first episode of the new series will be shown on tuesday the 8th of may at 9pm on BBC one in the uk.

Just finished series 3 on BBC America last night. I have to say, I am fan of this programme. I really dig the combination of horror and suspense genres. It's pretty gruesome, but it's really well done. It can scare me enough to think twice about going into my basement alone at night! After the first two series (the copycat series) I did wonder how it was going to perpetuate itself, but I liked the change in format for series 3 to using history as a blueprint.

The cast is great. Our Spooks connection in RPJ is really good in this different role for him. He doesn't overplay Chandler's OCD. Love Phil Davis as DC Miles. It's a gift of a role. There is just something about the crusty old cop with a heart of gold that I can't resist. I was really glad when they brought Buchan in permanently. He's kind of the eyes of the viewer which, again, Steve Pemberton handles really well. It's one thing to have encyclopedic knowledge of the history of crime and quite another to have to live in the middle of it 24/7. The overall character development is very well handled - it's present but not distracting from the plot and, most of the time, is tied to the plot.

And on a feminist note, I do like that the two regular female cast members (Dr. Llewellyn and DC Riley) are *normal* looking, intelligent, gutsy, professional women. Clare Rushbrook in particular is someone who sits on my radar whose work I always seem to enjoy.

Has anyone heard anything about it being recommissioned for a 4th series?

We're into the new season of Sherlock, and I'm sure a few people on this board are watching.

What did you think of the first episode of the new season? Did it measure up to the high standard set by the first season?

And we saw Lara Pulver do a turn as Irene Adler to boot.

I enjoyed the episode, though I think there was so much going on that I missed a few things. I did love to see quite a bit of the dysfunctional Holmes family dynamic, what with Mycroft featuring heavily.

I think there are a few people watching this series and I thought it could have a thread of its own to discuss it.

As I've mentioned before I prefered the first series to this second one, it has quality but it's getting nearer and nearer to a soap opera...

I love Maggie Smith (nothing new about it), she's fantastic, she doesn't have to say a word to make me laugh, her meaningful looks are so funny!

Do we know when the Christmas special will be??

G'day folks, I'm just wondering if there are any die-hard Stargate fans out there that may be willing to lend me their dvds?? I have Season 1 ep 1 - 18 (taped off the tv), but I know that there's 22 eps for the first 6(?) seasons; and 20 eps for the seasons after that.
I've just recently gotten into them again and would love to watch them all again. I don't really want to buy them as I'm sure I wouldn't watch them as much as Spooks. I did watch them on tv, but that was a long time ago.

Am willing to offer Australian tasty treats for the loan or something else could be negotiated. Please PM me if you are willing; if not what's your favourite episode?

P.S: If you're unsure about loaning something out, just ask picard1109 and cateau1. I've borrowed dvds from both of these gals...

First episode of the new series just finished on BBC1. What did you all think?

I loved it, thought Matt Smith was good in the role and I think he will grow into it more as the series unfolds. The new titles and music were ok, I think they will grow on me after a while.

It was all very well shot as well, the effects where great and the music was superb. Overall a great introduction to the series.

I already have a crush on Amy Pond.

There seem to be a few of us on here who love this show so I thought it would be nice to have a special thread for it where we can discuss it exclusively.

Favourite episode? Favourite character?

I loved the idealism of this show, and saw Sorkin's writing as a continuation and bettering of what he'd started on Sports Night - also highly recommended. I still think the pilot of this show, and even the first season, weren't indicative of what the show could really produce at its best.

Season 3 is my favourite season, because I think it was the most consistent across the board, but it's a near thing. There were episodes and storylines right across the show that I loved. One of my absolute favourite episodes was Institutional Memory, a wonderful Debora Cahn script that was the penultimate episode of the series in 2006.

Did you think the show went downhill after Sorkin left? I'm actually of the opinion that the back third of season 4 was appalling and very disappointing given how excellent the first half was. But some of the worst episodes of the show were in those last 10 or so of season 4, so it would be unfair to say it was just down to Sorkin and Rob Lowe leaving the show.

What's interesting is that even though they're very different, I've always seen Spooks and The West Wing as having quite a lot in common. The close personal bonds developed while working with people who become your family. High pressure working environments. Admittedly one is very much in the public eye, while the other exists on the condition of anonymity, but they are also both about a fundamental commitment to public service, with all problems that come with it, financial and personal.
