Maybe she knew she was going to cry and get mascara smudges all over her outfit? Silba

Maybe she just stayed on the Grid all night trying to track Lucas?

I think she was taken to the hospital and then went home, returning the grid early the next morning. The shirt reflects her state of mind and the fact she was feeling unworthy (I mean, come on Ruth, that shirt is not fit for the office now is it?) Unworthy of the trade Harry made that is. She chewed him out as soon as she arrived at the grid.

She was still clearly a bit drugged (or out of her mind) by sending H off to probable death and denying Beth and Dimitri the chance to follow him and try to save him.

Now I understand the tears. I've been confused about whether they were for Lucus (she knew he'd jumped) or Harry (because the bomb was fake and without coms didn't know what was happening) Now I know the tears were because she realised she was totally having a bad shirt day. Smile

Hee! I predict that from now on Harry will associate that shirt with "I'm in deep doo-doo with Ruth" thoughts. Let's hope she gets a new wardrobe for season 10 so he won't have to see it too much.

All this talk of the lovely denim shirt has made me rewatch that scene again in 9.8. I totally adore Harry here. The way he says to Ruth "..but he did." He just doesn't sound like "office Harry" to me. He sounds so vunerable, I want to cry for him. Perhaps it's just me. Blush

I do love the Denim shirt! Big Grin All this talk of shirts... everytime I rewatch an episode now, I can't help but notice whether or not Harry is tie-less... Tongue
Nope... it's not just you Wink
He sounds like "Harry, Harry" lol if that makes sense, not just office Harry but the more emotional and vulnerable Harry... I noticed it in 9.7 as well, where Ruth told him "It doesn't mean you can't freeze me out either"
... poor Harry, I wanted to cry for him too Blush

I loved Ruth's look in 9.8 with the denim skirt, she was more like she was in the early series, much more feminine. And Harry seemed so vulnerable....why didn't Ruth just give him a big hug?

If you think about physical contact between these two in season 9, there wasn't much. If I remember correctly, the only times they consciously touched each other was when they were in peril or a state of shock: Ruth taking Harry's hand in 9.6 to hand him the note, and Harry touching Ruth's in 9.7 when he takes the gun from her, and then of course in 9.8 when he checks if she's still alive after Lucas drugged her.

The only time they touched out of feeling rather than circumstance was when Harry touched Ruth's back when he proposed, and we all know how that turned out. So no wonder there wasn't any further comforting hugging etc. If these two ever hugged, we'll have to break out the champagne!

There's never been much physical contact between them though, even back in Series 5,
I'll always remember 5.5 when Harry lays a hand on Ruth's shoulder... and he's not sure whether he should or not,the nerves.... I still think it's sweet Wink They've always seemed a little shy (Especially Ruth) around each other when it concerns their personal lives

Was there more in Series 8? I remember that hand touch in 8.7, and then again in 8.8 while they were on the rooftop, but those moments in S8 weren't like S9, like you said in S9 those kinds of moments occured when they were either in danger or passing information... where as Series 8 it was more affections.

If they ever did hug, I think I might cry... with happinessTongue... and shock haha! I'll get a bottle of Bolly ready for S10, just in case!...Wink

JUst rewatched 9.8 and noticed how the word love was used 3 times in this episode re H&R. I may have missed it, but I don't recall it ever being spoken outloud before and established as a fact? (Even implied as happening offscreen.) Furthermore, it's used by people to describe what now seems to be an established fact, even though the characters themselves seem never to have told each other?
Lucas says "you love him don't you?" as a statement of fact, not really a question. How does he know this. People at work can spot attraction, closeness, affection but love is something else especially as we are led to believe nothing is going on between them beyond the grid.
Ruth tells Harry is was unfair of him to love her (even though he's never told her? Even during the proposal he never indicated his feelings of romance or love.)
On the rooftop, Harry reminds Lucas that terrible things are done in the name of love (ie reference to his love for Ruth and the albany trade)

As said, closeness or attraction is one thing. But referencing their "love" in such an off hand way is a massive off screen jump for me from S8 (just got round to asking out for a drink) to proposal, to everyone in the world talking about their love. Of course viewers have always been aware of the love, but not the characters.

Anyone else pick up on this, if you understand what I mean? Sorry, not explaining it very well.
