Is that picture of those two a continuation from the "car scene" we saw in original british drama trailer? Wink) Seems same clothes.... (but then again Ruth seems not to have anything other than back/navy in her closet these days)

Lol... it will be fun to come back to this thread and read all the guessing for this picture once it airs... Cool

Another way to continue the series would have been for Harry and Ruth to work as a couple on the Grid. I suppose that it is not Spooky enough. BBC's budget cuts must have also influenced Kudos's decision.

I like your idea of Spooks as a classic cult series.

I was also thinking that the BBC's decision to cut this year's output to 6 episodes may have been a factor in Kudos deciding to call it a day.

After everything I have read in the past couple of days I am convinced that Harry/Ruth shippers will be devastated at the finale.

My prediction is that there will be a "definite" ending in that Harry will be convicted as a traitor but it will be left open as to whether he actually was or not.

I hope against all hope that the rumors, especially on Twitter, are part of a campaign of misinformation. I do not want to sound too paranoid. Unless somebody has read the script or saw the actual scenes, we can't be 100% sure that there will be a devastating finale for the H/R fans. I have also read the tweets about the fate of one of our favorite characters.

Even PF had something to say in the Independant about the end of Spooks.

The last sentence is very interesting:
Firth said gloomily: "They could kill me at some point. I wouldn't rule it out."

It is hard for me to accept that Harry might be a traitor or not. The 10 years of Spooks would be a sham. To me it makes more sense that Harry was involved with a Russian spy in his youth, but it does not make him a traitor. It was more a lapse of judgment.

By the end of October it will be interesting to see who is right.

Making Harry a traitor wouldn't be brave nor audacious, (NW's quote about the ending) it would be foolhardy. I'm sure Kudos want fans to keep on loving the show and to buy/re-watch the dvds and that would make a total mockery of 10 years. I know Lucas fans could pitch in here, but sorry to say Lucas never had the same function (nor importance to the backbone) as Harry. An inappropriate relationship in the past yes, dodgy dealings 'in the name of the realm' yes - but an all out traitor? It would ruin their brand completely.

But I have been wrong about everything else, so who knows? It would leave a bad taste for sure.

All these comments of ruth or harry dying are depressing me. Just when i was starting to get optimistic. I don't think nicola's "audacious" or featherstone's "brilliant" ending sound ominous at all so can't see why people are getting so doom and gloom. But yes it certainly will be interesting to come back and see how our comments relate back to what actually happens. We'll probably laugh ourselves silly with this panic we've gotten ourselves into Big Grin

I agree. If there is one thing that's held the grid together over the years it's been Harry's determination to remain loyal to his team and country. Even his actions in S9 were carried out with the knowledge that what he handed over to Lucas/John wouldn't harm anyone.

Also agree about the BBC budget squeeze. Having to cut the series down to 6 episodes probably isn't financially viable for Kudos longterm but the fact the Beeb asked them to reconsider ending the series shows their squeeze has come back to bite them on the bum because they've lost an extremely popular programme not to mention a healthy income from overseas sales.

Seems to me PF hints before the start of each series that Harry might be killed off but then he's a BIG tease and NW's use of the word audacious gives me hope that what we'd normally expect from Spooks won't happen. Often for final episodes of long running series several endings are filmed so I doubt anyone other than producer and editor knows what the outcome will be, that's if they've made up their minds yet!

Can't wait!!

For Ruth & Harry, I have the horrible feeling that we will get what we wanted.....but then perhaps have it snatched away from us shortly after. Its possible that the Harry/Ruth relationship comes to a head with them both admitting (or rather Ruth admitting - since Harry's made no secret of how he feels for her) that they love/care for eachother very much. Harry's secret - whatever that is, could put them both in danger but perhaps the 'dramatic' or 'audacious' ending could be that just as they look as though they will be together, Ruth is shot? That would certainly bring their relationship to a 'conclusion' as JF has said.

Harry's guilt/innocence from his past would be interesting to see because there probably isn't a black & white answer - it will all be shades of grey and interpretation. Since they rewrote Lucas last season as a traitor and did so earlier with Connie, I doubt they will make Harry's past too bad. They know we all love him too much to take that kind of storyline.

Also with Harry, as he keeps threatening people, he knows where the bodies are buried and its not likley that he'd go down without a fight. Perhaps that's where the danger or the audacious ending is - maybe MI5 try to kill him to get rid of their potential problem rather than have a hearing!! Perhaps they intend to kill him but Ruth gets in the way? Harry could go completely nuts, like Jack in the last series of 24 and want revenge, or just be reckless to avenge her.

It would be typically Ruth if it were like a classical Greek tragedy. She'd see the irony!

I'd love them to end as a couple together but the way Kudos has dealt with their relationship since S8, it was never going to be straightforward. I think they'll opt for hugh drama to finish it rather than romance but I'll still keep my fingers crossed for Harry and Ruth sailing off into the sunset.....even if its on another boat down the Thames for a low key Grand Tour Smile

Or how about it looks as though they are killed but in the final few seconds we find out they faked it and are in exile together. Dmitri could get a postcard with their pics - like Zoe and Will in Chile!

Must go away and keep thinking happy thoughts....and rewatch all my fave R&H scenesSilba

Sad sad news, but I guess the silver lining is that this was a production decision and not a broadcast one, meaning we'll likely get a proper and fitting ending.

Angie, I think you're spot on about a number of things. Sadly, I don't think we'll get the postcard, though. I think the ending will be ambiguous at best. :-(

I was somewhat disappointed that they brought Malcolm back for a cameo in season 9, but never had him even speak to Ruth. They were supposed to be good friends, so why not show that?

So I'm hoping he'll be back for another appearance in season 10, and that this time they'll let him interact with her.
