It seems they knew early on that s10 had been comissioned. They spent S9 focused on Lucas as they also knew or suspected RA would be leaving. As a result Max's character was not developed leaving plenty of room for him to slot into pole position in s10. Also, Sophia is a big name, she again, was not utilised in s9, leaving plenty of room to go. There is also the hint of a back story with Alec, if he is to return. They don't need any big name, expensive stars to join the cast and eat the budget as both Beth and Dimetri are such new, unknown characters.
Filming must be starting soon? Any whispers of when?

I'd also love them to explore Dimitri and Beth a lot more. Beth has a little background already though, her history in the private sector and 9.2 where she was almost killed. Harry could have sacked her after 9.2 but he didn't, maybe so they could explore her character more in S10. I could see Dimitri slotting easily into place, I like him as a character and it would be nice to see more of him, bits of his past in the Navy ect...
I'd also love to see Alec return, even though he had only 1 episode head quite a large role in 9.8. I liked him, his sort of bitterness, the way he reacts to Beth, and why bring him in in Episode 8 if he wasn't going to stay... I hope he sticks around
I think I heard somewhere filming would start around March sometime... not sure though

i really think alec is there to stay he had the same type of entrance that adam had. i think we need more about beth and dimitri because frankly you are left not caring about them, beth especialy i found nothing likeable about her, dimitri grew on me but i wouldnt have cared if either left, i think s9 was to narrow in terms of charactors to much time spent on lucas to the detriment of everyone.
i do want more harry and ruth though they work so well together, but i think we are in for a good start to s10 with the whole review/investigation.
When do they start filming?

I actually liked both Beth and Dimitri,
But I suppose one reason I liked Beth is that I like Sophia Myles as an actress, in Beth's character I can see little mix on Jo in there somewhere, the way she thinks just seems similar,
but we really need to know more about both Beth and Dimitri, actually we hardly know anything about Tariq either and he's been around longer. S9 was so focused on Lucas.. I hope S10 isn't as character based,
Ahhh I want more Harry and Ruth working together, like back in S8 though, where Ruth was less 'Dead inside' I miss the old Ruth,
why bring back what happened in 8.1 throughout S9, when actually after 8.3 it was more or less forgotten for the rest of S8? hmm

Not having a well known celebrity in Section D works better for me. I suspect having Hermoine Norris and Richard Armitage was a major reason behind the lack of staff on the grid. When we had junior agents around like Danny and Zoe or Zaf and Jo, there were more fun lines and a lot more character development. They have two great juniors now in Dimitri and Beth and the two (in my opinion) irreplaceable characters in Harry and Ruth. If they brought in a major name now, it would take the focus away from the stories we want them to concentrate on.

It is usually end of Feb/start of March. But if there are only 6 episodes, who knows. My guess would be that they would start filming at the same time but finish earlier, or on time for a change, as they always seem to run over schedule.

Oh Yes! I have grown lately to love Max Brown... and I hope we see more of him as Dimitri.. Gotta say he is rather gorgeous

Without a doubt Harry and Ruth are essential also they don't seem to work well without each other. I think without the Lucas arc we will get more about Beth and dimitri and alecs back story if he is part of a team
