Peter Firth is an acting god.

Blimey, he was good in the last episode.

Hope we get to see him in lots of other things in future - such a talent should not be wasted.

And that is all there is to say about that, huh? I cannot gush enough. I keep coming back to two words: sublime and magnificent.

I am going to miss SHP dearly but I certainly hope that, because of it, PF gets the opportunities to do the work he so richly deserves. Awards are bullsh*t (IMO, of course) but the reality is that they do help propel a career forward. Message to Peter's Agent and/or Kudos: If it hasn't been done already, SUBMIT 10.6 to BAFTA! If anyone actually deserves it, he does.

Couldn't agree more, thought his acting through out this series was amazing...just hope the production company (kudos) submit it...maybe they need some encouragement!

I agree with all you say and more besides, I don't understand why he hasn't been nominated thus far? (Would Kudos have to pay him more if he'd won the BAFTA previously????)

I must confess to fearing that the length and quality of his portrayal of Harry Pearce may have shot him in the foot, certainly in the UK. Where does he go from here? Peter himself has said that he has to be careful with that. A role like Harry doesn't come along too often, especially given the mess British drama is in these days with the focus on police and hospital shows. It would need to be a totally different role and sadly there isn't all that much scope out there. Perhaps he needs a nudge over to ITV for the third series of Downton. Smile Smile Would be good to see him back in a period drama, although a real baddie would also be fabulous. Or something showing his fabulous humour that we hear so much about. I just don't want him to disappear.

Glad he's involved with this HBO project and I hope he gets more milage out of it than South Riding. They seriously must've cut his role back in that one. WWW may reopen some doors stateside for him which I both love and loathe the idea of!

I hope my negative ramblings don't form any basis of truth. What do I know! I'd love to see him get the work his talents deserve but Spooks has left me feeling all doom and gloom about just deserts. However, I wish him my heartfelt best, and hope to hear of a new project soon.

He very well may have been nominated but didn't make it past the initial voting stages to the short list of nominees released to the public. As I understand it, the actor (or the producer) submits one episode as a representative of their work. 10.6 is that episode if there ever was one! But Spooks has been such an ensemble piece that I suppose it is possible that there wasn't one episode that worked as a good nomination for him? Or he didn't want to submit something for himself.

Kudo's would only have had to paid him more for winning a BAFTA if he got that negotiated into his contract for the following series. It's a two-way street. Salary isn't the only negotiating tool in the box, either.

I wouldn't worry too much about the role of Harry pidgeon holing him career-wise. My take is that it is a damn good role by which to be defined. Even without a BAFTA, he is better off having done it than he was prior to the beginning of Spooks. He's already better off than 90% of the actors out there trying to get a job. He'll be fine....

I would love to see Peter Firth in a period drama, preferably screen written by Andrew Davies, because he leaves in all the gorgeous detail. And he would be great in Downton Abbey because I'd love to see him act with Dame Maggie Smith, but I fear he would camp it up!

I just hope that he doesn't end up having to guest star in other long running dramas, or take obscure bit parts in dubious films. He deserves so much better!

Happy Birthday to our favorite leading man, Peter Firth! You make 58 look very good! Yahoo

On a somewhat related note, any idea why Harry wasn't given the same birthday as Peter, given that they are only 4 days apart (Harry's birthday is 1 November, 1953)? I noticed that Ruth has Nicola's birthday, so I was just curious.

I'm pretty sure it's wondering about things like this that verify that I'm insane - about Spooks anyway! Vueltasss

Don't be so hard on yourself, SweetTea. I and a lot of other people share your very particular brand of insanity
