I think one of the reasons that H/R is such a great relationship is the gradual realization by both that the other is someone worth looking into. They very slowly discover that they have similar tastes, similar intellects, similar senses of humor, similar ideas of loyalty and duty. Ruth gets there first, but that's because she's actively looking for someone. Once she narrows her focus to Harry, he's done for. I think it probably crystalized during series 3.

Oh I definitely agree that they slowly discover that they have similar tastes and values, I'm not sure that I would describe Harry as done for though!

I meant "done for" in the sense that he now cannot see anyone else but Ruth. Harry's become pretty single-minded in that respect.

I suppose in that way... Smile

I agree JHyde. I think though if George hadn't been involved, knew nothing, was safe, then maybe she would have had a dilemma between staying in Cyprus or coming back to the UK.

When did Ruth fall for Harry and why:

I agree that it was a gradual thing, but I think she realised that she was falling for him in 3.9, when there was a chance that he would get the DG position and leave them. The way she asked him not to forget about them spoke volumes. The why is a very difficult one to answer, though. Probably for the same reasons we all adore Harry - his integrity, fairness, loyalty to his officers, sexy voice, cute smile, wry sense of humour, etc...

I have been volunteered to help out with Ruth's Diary. I'm quite excited now in a reserved Tea Lady sort of way . I shall await orders. Cool

I think it's a respect for a father figure that evolved for her into romantic feelings.

I like that Ruth seems less deferential to Harry in this season. She's been through a lot, and had developed more confidence in herself. She's now the instigator in their relationship. I like that you often see them placed standing with each other, like a couple; like when they are confronting Lucas in Harry's office. I see her feeling her worth more.

I think she has had to instigate the latest goings on because of how she has acted in the past with Harry. The poor bloke hadnt a clue where he stood so just took a back seat and waited. Ruth pushed Harry away originally and then again when George died. It has been said before on the Harry thread but the ball was put in her court to do with what she wished once she got over her grief.

Spoiler: show
There is definitely a scene between them in the finale that looks quite intimate (in an H/R way) and I'll be interested to see who's on the rooftop first. Or it may just start with both of them there already, they're fond of those
