I don't know it did have the major end of series cliff hanger as usual

It had the cliffhanger but IMO it failed to have the impact of a classic Spooks season finale episode.

I thought this episode was like most of this series, absolutely woeful.

(Apart from episodes 801 & 802) 801 in particular was an excellent episode!

I think the thing that annoyed me most about this episode was the shaky camera work and the constant zooming in and out during conversations, it drove me nuts!

Other things that annoyed me about this episode where the ridiculously unbelievable situations e.g.

Spoiler (Click to Hide)
The Lucas hospital scene, how does Ros go from talking to him on the phone while driving to stopping Lucas from killing someone in the hospital within the space of 20 seconds?

I'd expect this type of nonsense and lack of continuity from a low budget B movie action flick but not from arguably the best BBC drama series of the past decade!

I could rant on about at least another 3 or 4 scenes in episode 808 that where similar but I won't bother.

ygtbr 100%.

Still peeling off the trash my flatmates threw at my monitor as they watched the episode.

Too bad because great topic and storyline were lost. Directors, writers and editing crew managed to sink the series to the pit of immaturation in one episode. Ep8 is like a symphonie without a conducteur.

With respect, BBC, wondering what happened to good, old quality control?

Haven't heard the term "boffing" ever!!

Felt compelled to put my 2 cents in, because this is funny (T'is after all new year's in 15 hrs) . I don't reside in America, & not as far as the crows fly from it either. i don't think a respectable adult uses this term often in this part of the universe. Only a repulsive, insecure, middle aged dude named Russell (AKA Jack R[ussell]) would (Can't believe it rhymed). Anyway, not high in the 2nd quadrant of the vulgar-scale. Ineffective rubbish, really. Cheers.

This was Ros' episode -- amazing work by HN. If she's actually gone, she certainly went out on a high note. Particulary good bits:

Ros: Which annoyed you more -- Twitter or the fact that he went to Cambridge?
Harry: Actually, it was when he said the PM got on the blower to the President of the United States.
Ros: Of course.

Lucas: Can't think of why Nightingale haven't tried to recruit you.
Ros: It's been gnawing at me, as well.

Ros: (re Sarah) She's a silly little showoff.

Ros: Get Miss Reagan or whatever she's calling herself today to a clinic.
(BTW, in answer to an earlier question, Lucas turning and moving away from Sarah on the bridge was Ros' signal to take the shot. He was well aware that Ros was there.)

Price: Well, this is the lesser of two evils, we can control it.
Ros: No, you couldn't even control Iraq.

Ros: (to Price) I'm going to find my Home Secretary even if it is completely useless. I really don't want your face to be the last thing I see.

Final scene in the hallway with Ros and the HS -- absolutely superb acting by both HN and TM. Ros: "You see that light. That's our way out of here. Just keep moving toward the light, ok." Echoes of both "Look at all the cake and presents, Fiona" and "A Dog So Small." Just a wonderful scene.

Liked the nice patter and easy camaraderie between Lucas and Ros in this ep.

Cat fight between Ros and Sarah -- damn!

Sarah was already waiting for Lucas at Lindemann's -- how did she know he was going to be there? And why didn't she know Ros was there too?

I wasn't bothered by the HS's obvious attraction to Ros. I found it both funny and endearing, in a puppy-ish kind of way, like a teenager with a crush on a teacher. Also, I thought his being so obvious was part of his plan -- he knew that she knew, etc.

Lucas seemed to have finally figured out Sarah -- "You're a liar, a murderer, a self-serving traitor, not just to your own country but to humanity, in general. You disgust me!" But he still mourns her. Oh well, at least she's dead and can't mess with his head anymore.

The mystery of the opening screen shot of Ruth is finally solved -- it's when Harry leaves the grid at the end of the ep to go to the hotel and she's both pissed and worried in equal amounts. Great H/R moment in Harry's office -- Ruth: "That's called the 'availability error' in psychology, most common cause of irrational thought." She basically tells him that he isn't thinking clearly and all he can do is look at her adoringly (as well as look her up and down) . . . awwww.

Did anyone notice that there were myriad great shots of Ruth's eyes throughout this ep? And that the lighting was much better than previously? And no pink lips!

Russell Price -- terrible accent (no great surprise), an obnoxious pig, self-satisfied and smarmy. BTW, no CIA guy, especially one who was Head of CIA European Operations, would have hair that shaggy. And Sarah, with a hole in the middle of her forehead and no blood on the pillow -- c'mon, be serious!

Sorry for the length -- had to catch up with all of you!

That scene between Ros and Price is fantastic, where she sends Lucas away.

"The only regret I have about dying is that I won't be there to see it." Very Ros. It harks back to that conversation in 7.2 with Harry about Adam. This whole season had overtones of that for Ros.

Yes, a good/nice HR moment there Big Grin I watched the titles of Spooks very closely each week to see if I can guess what the full story is behind each clip. Sadly I failed dramatically (but hey, my versions had way more HR than they gave us Tongue)

I thought Ruth looked great this episode. As for the lighting, I think it was a little better in Harry's office but on the grid itself they still seemed a little pale. The Harry/Ruth scene where Ruth seems to be almost spitting out the words "..security situation.." they both look white as a sheet. Comparing that to the "finding nemo" moment, Harry looked pratically orange there !

As for the opening shot of Ruth in the titles, I guessed right that it was to do with Harry, that he was saying something important to her, but I was hoping it was a little "I love you" instead of it being "get me a car now!" That's our Harry for you though.....

RE: Episode 8 Discussion - almh - 01-01-2010 12:16 PM

So was I! That was my story for that clip, that they were having an important conversation and Ruth went to walk away and Harry called her back and they all lived happily ever after...

Tea Lady: "our Harry" - you're saying that someone can share Harry with you? Tongue

The simple answer is no, but I cant give one word answers anymore or will get told off so my answer is therefore "no Almh"

RE: Episode 8 Discussion - almh - 01-01-2010 12:32 PM

Hehe I think some other people on this thread may have an issue with the answer being no! Tongue

I'm sure that Roz and the HS survived because she was dragging him further and further away from the area where the bomb was. She is a strong person and must have got the HS far away enough from the epicentre! Please don't let either of them die.
