I just can't imagine Harry Pearce suffering from Post Traumatic Stress. He comes from a generation who didn't believe in counselling and bottled things up. He isn't going to be very open about his feelings, even to Ruth. 'It's just the wind, Ruth', is more Harry.

Breakdown, no. Very pissed off about Ros' and the baby HS' deaths and the people who caused them, definitely YES. A mad Harry is a very scary thing!

I was thinking of what occurred with Katchimov, only 100x bigger.

I respectfully disagree, Naivety. If Harry is 55 in 2010, then he was born in 1955 and came of age after Woodstock and before AIDS. He's from the "free love" generation, the late end of the baby boom. This generation that invented "consciousness raising" and many other forms of self-expression and navel-gazing. While Harry is a conservative dude, it has nothing to do with his generation. Just my two cents :-)

If he was a civilian maybe, but he's been in the services all the way through the Cold War, when attitudes were a lot different to today. I've lived around service personnel all my life, even at military bases. The way these guys cope is with humour and a drink down the pub! The official secrets act means you can't talk about what's been going on, so they get used to bottling it up.

That doesn't mean that Harry won't get angry or upset, he'll just try to cover it up. Even Adam tried to keep his stress private, showing a brave face.

Harry is very sexy when he's angry Angel

expat, Harry's English. I mostly agree with you, but don't discount Harry's faith in the stiff upper lip.

Ah yes, Tea Lady and Naivety, you both make excellent points. I do hope the writers let us see more of a range of emotions in Harry in s9, but I agree with what was stated earlier, a big breakdown a la Adam is just not Harry.

Well I thought we saw more of "Harry" in this episode than we did in the whole of series 8. Why did he ask Ruth when he did, to marry him? Did he really think she would say yes? Maybe he was expecting her to say no to give himself more heart ache? He wanted to hurt more and more because he felt he was almost worthless.

When he was killing Blake, I loved the hand across the face moment, You could only really see one of Harry's eyes. Was that an act of respect for the old HS or did he not want the HS see how upset he was by the fact he HAD to kill him? Harry had no choice.

Harry showed more need and worry for his officers in this episode than before. He really needs to get that under control if he is to function, going forward.

Note: loved all the ties and suits in this episode. Harry looked guuud. Wink

I too loved the suits and ties, TL. Sir Harry looked great in this ep. Loved the leather gloves in his scene with Blake, the realisation on Blake's face was awesome. Loved his line to Tariq about the nation having to do without porno and minesweeper for a few hours. LOL.

You're right that he showed more emotion in this ep than in season 8, but after
Series 9 Spoiler: show
Ros's death, and her sparsely attended funeral
that seems understandable.

He looked fabulous! And that voice! Funeral or no funeral had he whispered in my ear like that I wouldn't have given the same reply as Ruth!

I think that Harry has totally gone of the boil, a bit like Tom Quinn.

The scene between Harry and Blake was fantastic, both actors were on top form and the dialogue was fantastically written. One of the best deaths in the show. Blake was a brilliant character, the respect between the two of them was so apparent even in their final scene.
