Ruth has been in for more than three full series in total as well. So has Ros.

As for
Spoiler: show
'a defection to MI5 by Christine Dale could be an interesting twist' - one of the Spooks books - I think it's Harry's Diary? - says that she eventually married Tom, so that's kind of a defection Tongue

I did say 3 OR 4 series. Either way it would be good to see a return from past characters, especially as the show is coming towards the end of its shelf life.

Spooks has slightly more viewers than "The Bill" so hopefully not

Bringing back previous characters would be a mistake unless it was for a one off episode with its own story. For Spooks to keep going, it needs to reinvent itself and keep attracting younger viewers whilst keeping its hard core fans happy, which it has many. This is a tricky balance. This is the reason behind the current choice of actors, I believe, for series 9.

So just to repeat and keep on topic, bring back Juliet and Mace but just for a single story.

Ha nice Bill reference there! Tongue

I agree with you about previous characters, although it would be nice I think new people are the way forward. But they sorta cocked up Tariqs entrance last Series, it's been 8 episodes and I have no idea about his past whatsoever.

With other new characters we found out loads about them in the first episode (Adam, Ros, Lucas etc) So I hope they don't cock up the new people's entrance!

several recent rumours and speculations have hardened my conviction that
Spoiler: show
Ros will be back, at least for an episode or two.. before being retired on medical grounds Tongue, the HS didn't make it so we get the old one back Big Grin Big Grin, Lucas will be made section chief (gah!) and get a new "trainee" (let's face it - IF he and Ros made it out - they're likely to be a tad banged-up and for at least an episode, while they rest their old bones, they need younguns to do the legwork Big Grin) and being stuck behind a desk and dealing with politicians rather than doing real spook work will drive him to drink and lose his rag Tongue...

This sounds fairly solid actually, Tyger. It would explain having so many new faces around and the main 'threat' this season could be what it so often is in workplaces the world over - when the bad staff come to infiltrate a previously good team.

or the bad stuff .. vodka, whiskey, Jägermeister.. Tongue
there are not only external dangers to our spunky spooks.. your worst enemy often resides in yourself. Maybe we'll finally see some of them computing some implications and stare into the abyss only to have it stare back at them.

Thanks for the info Tyger.. sounds like they will have a massive team! (compared to Series 9 at least!)

Okay so we have "ultimate betrayal". How about Lucas finds out that Harry was responsible for his time in Russia and sets about getting revenge perhaps using people he meet in prison (Russian mafia ?). I think Lucas being a double agent for the FSB is way too obvious for Spooks.
