That's reasonably accurate, about as close as you can get. Less of Secretary of State though - those sorts of responsibilities are usually the purview of the Foreign Secretary in the UK. It is one of the three main offices of state though and probably the one that requires the greatest amount of finesse and discretion.
Nicholas Blake puts is nicely in 8.6 when he says he's the most unpopular man in the UK. There's a strong element of truth to that.
So which stations in the US show MI-5? PBS and who else?

A&E used to air it on cable, but I don't think they do any more. Just PBS,but in an inconsistent way. Each PBS station is run differently from state to state, each of which purchase different programs and have their own schedules. No consistency at all,which makes it a niche show at best. And the typical PBS viewer really isn't quite the demographic that would watch the show -- PBS is known more for documentaries, folk music, and theater-type drama.

I didn't realise PBS programming was different from one state to another - thanks Dara. I figured because it was a federal shebang, they would screen stuff nation wide too.
We're lucky here because the ABC *does* screen it, it's nation wide. And it usually gets a few repeats too.

MPT (the Maryland PBS station) airs MI5 on Sunday evenings, after Masterpiece Mystery (Foyle's War, at present). I'm surprised that BBC America doesn't (all Gordon Ramsey, all the time).

Interesting about the name change because in the U.S. spooks also is a term used in the past for intelligence service operatives. That being said it is a slang term so MI-5 was a good choice for a name so it does not offend any group.

I was really surprised that it aired on PBS here in western NY. I thought it quite odd that of all channels it was on PBS. It airs on Thursday nights at 10 p.m. in this neck of the woods. When it was on A&E the days and times changed frequently so even if you did want to follow it...it was a challenge.

I've given up trying to follow it on broadcast tv. It is completely inconsistent on Idaho PBS. Netflix and internet for me. But that's how I watch all my tv these days ... Always on the lookout for gems like MI5 to discover. Makes it hard to have watercooler discussions, though.....

Peter gliekman,Gatehouse just loved it.
