I've watched it three times so far. Also, the whole reason I bought the DVD was because my wife wanted to watch it again. That almost never happens in her case.
I'd agree that Avatar is no Star Wars, but how many of the people who saw Avatar would normally go see a sci fi/fantasy film? Also, how many would watch an animated flick? I'd say it's 75% animated and yet, it's now the highest grossing movie ever. Is it a great movie? No. Is it an amazing film to watch? Absolutely. It made Pixar go back and reevaluate how they were going to approach Warlord of Mars, which is to be their first live action film. Avatar is a game changer. Do you have to like it? No. Personally I think Titanic was about 2 1/2 hours too long. My wife for about five years thought it was the greatest film ever. Always love your country, but never trust your government. |
