See, I'm actually the other way around. Amelie just makes me want to smoosh her stupid face. La Vie En Rose is spectacular - that sequence where Edith finds out that Cerdan is dead is unbelievably good.

French cinema's been pretty yuck the last ten years or so, but I think it's on its way back now, with Un prophète leading the way. I'm all for escapism, but most of the romantic comedies that have come out of France the last few years especially aren't any better than a lot of those coming out of Hollywood.

If you want a good French film you should watch Il Y A Longtemps Que Je T'Aime, starring Kristin Scott-Thomas. It's one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. Very gripping and sad, but beautiful. And Kristin plays her role beautifully.
