I can't remember for certain Beatriz but I think he told him that his daughter held out and didn't spill. He had previously told him that she gave up the info so he could get the hiding place (since at that point nobody knew it) and in the car (I think) he told him the truth. He may have added that they were keeping it safe to give him a sort of fake lift in spirits. Also, he doesn't tell Ruth everything. There are most likely things that only he should know (as he sees it.)

As I said, I haven't had a chance to watch it again so this may be wrong. Maybe someone else can remember.

Yes previously Harry had told Dr. Kirby that his daughter had spilled so he could get the hidng place. But this story was was flawed - he was told that she was drowned but she had told a British Officer before she died that she had spilled - so what is supposed to have happened? Did the British Officer drown Kirby's daughter - of course not! The story does not ring true because it isn't true. Dr. Kirby on reflection would have realised this and started to ask awkward questions (as government or ex. government scientists are apt to do). So why not tell Dr. Kirby the truth, after all he will be bounded to secrecy anyway and as Harry says Dr. Kirby is a "princpled man".
