RE: Episode 7 Discussion
The Ashoks of the world offer hope for peace. Although they revere their past, the Ashoks have assimilated well into society . They live, love, play, and yes, drink, like any blokes we hung out with. Spooks gave us a glimpse of Ashok's psyche when he said he played football with the Hindus because others would not because he was Asian. Historical foes like the Hindus is not a factor for Ashok- football is. The Ashoks are the second or third generation immigrants
Unfortunately, some (not all) first generation immigrants, like Victor, came to the country with emotional baggage They act out their hatred here, and we all suffer. I'm lost on how else we can do to help them change. I am perplexed because I do not imply that they should kill somewhere else. The recent events in Mumbai is too painful to recollect. The Ashtoks give me hope and peace of mind. As an individual, I will continue to reach out to the Ashoks and the Dhillons. I fear for the consequence of what Ashoks told Lucas "Victor played Dhillon and you played me, liar man". Did the experience make him aspire to remain English or join the Taliban? I was let down when Ashoks said nobody else want to play football with him because he is Asian. It's a sad business. This is the 21st century. Why can't we just celebrate our diversity. |
