LOVED the "inner meglomaniac" line -- such a hoot and sooooo true! "Your beauty intrigues me" and "I ached for you . . . always" -- such great use of language.

I think this really works well and answers the question of "what's changed" -- at the very least, they're willing to talk to each other and verbalize their fears. But they're also willing to acknowledge their love for each other to each other -- a significant step forward, methinks.

I'm not sure how I feel about Ruth belittling her intellectual prowess -- I understand why you made this choice and where it took the story, I'm just not sure about it.

But, that aside, I think the story really is great. It sets up a realistic situation for them to be alone together and the movement toward something new in the relationship is exquisitely laid out and plotted (they've been here vs. they're going there). And, the language and use of imagery really is stunning. So, congratulations, again!!
