I'm happy enough with the new writers, but if they fail to wrap up sufficiently in the last episode (however they probably will wrap up most of it) then i may start thinking they should bring in one of the old writers fromt the first few series armed with a cement mixer and trowl to fill in the p(l)ot holes. I think this is a good summary of the reason for so much of the angst attached to this plot development. Quite aside from the ??@*!! factor of using (and seemingly undermining) the carefully constructed and subtly shown character of Lucas to make a tired point about whether morality attaches to an action or to the person undertaking the action, there is also the irritation of it being done in such a binary way. Either the many and ludicrous inconsistencies and impossibilities in the story are red herrings and a conscious aspect of the plotting (good, and appropriate for the setting), or they are plot holes of the worst and most lazy kind (bad, and unforgivable in pretty much any narrative setting). |
