RE: Series 9 Episode 1 discussion
i really liked this ep, although there was a giant ROS Shapped hole in it, and i felt she wasnt mentioned enough i mean her loss is visable with Harry especialty with Blake and of course with Ruth, but i dont know something about it dosent stick with me. im not 100 if lucas is strong enough to be the lead.

i liked how when he went to see the new HS there were two chairs looked very empty and poninent.

that said spooks felt fresher, it felt different like things were different. ruth did stand out at me more because she wasnt herself she is usualy the one to comfort the team but i didnt feel that from her last night - i hope as well she isnt the big bad,

within the first 7 mins i had said outloud OMG about 5 times not just at the proposal (poor harry his face) and Blakes betrayal i was not expecting that. also harry showing visable emotion to him about ros was unexpected.

im looking forward to next week, i haev to say i was suprised by sophia myles but i hope they dont try to turn her into the new ros.

Yeah, I liked that Harry had to make that choice at the end too. I liked it even more that there was no real hesitation from him in making it. So even when he is sad and depressed, he can make the hard choices still. That's commitment. I wonder what made him withdraw his resignation in the end? Was it perhaps the fact that he surprised himself by being able to make that choice despite everything, and realising he still has something to give?

I don't think we're in any danger of confusing Beth with Ros.

For a start, Beth smiles. Her jokes are much less sarcastic too.

I dig Beth. I know some of you are lukewarm, but I think her bio is interesting too. The fact that she is coming the other way from the private sector after being turned down once.

The closest to that story is Malcolm, who made his fortune in the private sector before being head hunted. Beth is something else altogether.

HAH! Is OK, it's just you lopped off the bits where I kind of qualified what I said.

We didn't see an actual coffin for Ros - presumably she was blown to pieces?

But are we all 100% certain she really IS dead?

Unlikely BUT I still think the door is open that if we get a Season 10 and Hermione Norris wanted to return to the show it could be possible.

Perhaps she has been spirited away by Harry and sent undercover to Moscow again to blow Lucas' cover if Harry is having suspicions about him?

Oh gosh BravoNine, it never occurred to me to question Ruth! I guess after Nicholas Blake, anything is possible. Trust no-one!

Trust no one. No one is as they seem. NW is too good an actress to be wasted. I really want them to give her something to do.

RE: Series 9 Episode 1 discussion
Great episode, I enjoyed it, although I can say that 10 hours after watching it because right after my mind was still digesting everything.

When Ruth told Harry that Blake was behind the bomb, I felt his disappointment, because I really liked Blake and trusted him Angry . Then while still digesting that, Harry is at his door with a smile plastered on his face and then I realized he poisoned the whisky (While watching I had the impression Harry did not drink and thought he took the bottle and glasses to leave no trace because the whole bottle was poisoned). Amazing scenes! Adding to my surprised of the events…old HS called Ruth a b*tch! Confused

I knew from spoilers that Ros wouldn’t be back and I thought I was resigned to it, but watching the funeral really got to me. It hurt and made it more sad that only 4 people plus her parents(?) were there, I’m glad that at least Harry mentioned/noticed it. I really thought “the whole city should be there, the whole country!“
Am I the only one that expected Malcom to attend?
@tealady, I also thought Lucas might feel he let down Ros, that he should have make sure they both lived when he sent Beth to call Harry.

I like Ruth’s make up, I think it sets her eyes off.

Harry’s line about pornography&minesweeper, LOL!

I think I’ll like Beth with time, at least I’m glad she doesn’t feel like a replacement for Ros, that she is different.

When Vaughn called Lucas ‘John’ I remembered RA saying in an interview that when he read the script he went ‘What?!?’, maybe this is not the part he was talking about but I felt like that.
Lucas reaction to Vaughn and the way he looked at that bag, totally scares me, I’m so nervous about what is going to happen and what we’ll discover about him.
I like that he is another John, only I hope not John Smith or we(fans) will have trouble with the name’s acronyms of RA’s other characters Silba

You know I love my JA, so it will come as no surprise that I had the same thought. It jarred me and I thought, Oh, God Almighty, here it is! Please - don't screw it up! It did kind of turn into Darcy's botched first proposal when he asks Lizzy for all the wrong reasons.

I was laughing a lot, too. There are some great sound bites and one liners in this episode. I am so happy to have the humor back and I hope it remains as consistently present as it was in this first ep. I loved the one from the new HS about lining the walls with mink and Ruth line about Dimitri and swimming with sharks for fun.

I also kind of feel like they put a bunch of trampolines out for each characters and we will now get to watch them bounce from trampoline to trampoline. There are a lot of really good set ups and starting points.
