I guess they did, both of them were sort of barring out their souls to each other. Lucas admitting to all his crimes, exposing his messed-up psyche, and Harry admitting to being a manipulator and able to lie and risk anything for Queen and Country. Both finally seeing each other for who they really are. The rooftoop certainly was a good place for it.

I remember RA had said in an interview that he thought it would be great if Spooks ever did a movie, and that it would be awesome to bring back Matthew MacFadyen and Keeley Hawes since both are movie stars perfect for a Spooks film already! Smile

Four scenes come immediately to mind - and I'll rewatch for others

1) 9.7 - the basement interrogation, when Harry and Lucas are in silhouette - "DAMN YOU!" and Lucas flinches.
2) 9.8 - the roof top scene. Raw emotions
3) 9.8 - Lucas' grief over Maya. Gut-wrenching, but superb
4) 9.6 (?) - when Lucas goes back for Malcolm - blurred filming, implying he's losing it, and you realise HE IS BAD.

I think the scene in 9.6 when Lucas is about to shoot Daniella Ortiz, is great, when Lucas becomes suspicious of the kill order, and he asks 'Harry' what is his favourite opera. You can see the realisation slowly dawning that this isn't Harry on the phone.

Lucas 8.4: It's all about trust, isn't Harry ?.

RE: Favourite piece of film/editing/scene?
Re-watched 9.7 last night and in addition to the interrogation scene between Harry and Lucas, I think the filming in Ruth's fight sequence is really well done. The camera work is messy and awkward, like the fight itself. It hardly knows where to focus as they are careening around the room until it focus' on Ruth. For most of the sequence, one of them is out of frame or only partially in frame. Great work from the make-up and FX department's too.

As for acting, Ruth's visit to Deery in the hospital is brilliant from both for them. I like the shot at the end when she has pauses in the hallway just outside her door listening to him. It is a very dark scene. Contrasted with a very light scene when Harry comes to check up on her the next morning. The lightness of the scene reflects their honesty with each other in that moment.

Upon my second watch of this series I am becoming more aware of how stylized and heightened it is, in both filming as well as a plot.

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
