RE: Most despicable series 9 character?
In reverse order:

3. Robert Westhouse - not as despicable as SC, but the "best" from S9
2. The suitcase - because that idea is so funny (thanks Bravo)
1. The Writers - for coming up with the most ridiculous storyline in the history of Spooks, and an insult the intelligence of Spooks fans worldwide. "Despicable" isn't enough...

I'd like to add "John Bateman" for the reasons given by WhiteSwan above (well listed, WS), but also can't accept that JB is a "character," and also "Maya" - despicable for insulting our intelligence and wasting precious screentime that could've been more gainfully employed by filming Lucas with his shirt off (God, I nearly wrote "shorts off" - Freudian slip? Blush Big Grin )

Well, I had to add ONE shallow comment (haven't done it for a week) Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Whoever decided it would be entertaining to watch the pain etched into Harry's character throughout the series. I almost gave up on it.

Oh dear. I really am getting a bit confused. I though this thread was about series 9 characters. A character being a person represented in a drama, story, etc or a part or role, as in a play or film.

TL is right, guys. Let's stick to the characters we saw in season 9, and leave the complaining about storylines and the writers to more appropriate threads please.

Viktor Barenchik gets my vote, for so callously executing the AFF people in Russia, then drowning Meg Kirby and shooting that final AFF guy when he didn't need to. And for showing absolutely no remorse for any of it.

I still say the briefcase! It was more of a character than Maya, she's more of a sponge.

Vaughn and Harry are rather tied at this point for me, Harry being slightly better than Vaughn.

Victor Barenchik is indeed a very bad seed, but to me he's not most despicable, there are worst things than shooting and physically hurting someone.

If John Bateman can be counted as a separate character than Lucas North, then I'd say he's pretty despicable too, but I'd guessed he is more just insane than despicable.

I'm not sure if they count as most despicable, but the Chinese Hit Squad were a kind of malevolent presence in a few episodes, although they didn't do anything really terrible, you just knew they were bad.

Lucas 8.4: It's all about trust, isn't Harry ?.

RE: Most despicable series 9 character?
I don't get how anyone can call Harry despicable???? He refused to believe Ruth about Lucas, then he let him go (with a gun) to clear his name, then he tried to reason with him on the roof (unarmed) In reality, he could've gone to the roof gun in hand or even snipers at the ready to take him out.

Despicable to me is Robert Westhouse. Everything I loathe about men like him. His plans for Nigeria, meddling in Africa, not for any ideology, but simply for yet more money. (as if he doesn't have enough?)
