Episode 4 [re-watch]

RE: S5 E4 - Havensworth Operation
This is an episode I could watch over and over again (and not just for the romantic subplot!). I really liked how the episode wasn't full of action but had me on the edge of the seat for the entire episode with the representation of international politics.

This is probably my favourite episode of series 5, because overall, I felt as though the entire season was too adam-centric and caught up with his psychological meltdown, rather than all the members of the team (as per earlier series).

RE: S5 E4 - Havensworth Operation
i liked the last scene with adam, if noithing else that should have rung alarm bells with everyone the fact he was in bits over a woman who had just killed someone! cradeling her paralelling fiona!

i loved all the Harry Ruth Stuff, i still cant believe she walks away from him! her face when she sees him alone on the screen was lovely.

This ep made me warm to Ros which i hadnt done before! she always seems like a cold fish! but i think she is hiding something

RE: Episode 4 [re-watch]
I really love this episode, especially for the African politics angle. I also love the whole moral dilemma of allowing a guy who is planning a genocide to go ahead in order to save the agreement, or not. Do you sacrifice one tribe in one country, or do you allow them to be killed and hope that the agreement will save more lives than it cost?

Love Harry getting prissy with the Foreign Secretary, and playing him at his own game in the end. That scene where Harry has to decide whether to okay the assassination, is great stuff. Well written, and wonderfully acted all round.

And we finally get to see a glimpse of why Ros' skills are so highly regarded. I liked her here, until she went off at Harry at the end. I'm not sure what her argument was there - how is Harry's problems with Ruth in any way comparable to her and her father planning a coup? Very twisted logic she applied, in my opinion.

I also love how you can see Ruth's resolve not to date Harry weakening throughout the episode. She just can't stay away from him, even though she thinks it's better to do so.

I'm also very impressed with Ruth's ability to organise a bunch of black kids at the drop of a hat...

RE: Episode 4 [re-watch]
im constantly amazed at ruths ability to organize loads of the things she does!

i can see why ros is so angry really i can harry all but promises her he wont go down for long, and then tells adam before her not because he needs to know because he dosent really and he shouldnt have known before ros but because he wants to its almost like he needs adam to tell him its ok or something

I think Ros needs to grow up in this episode.

Her father is responsible for his own actions - no body else should take responsibility for that.

He tried to overthrow democracy in Britain - kind of a serious offence (!) in my book. He should face the consequences.

RE: Episode 4 [re-watch]
To defend Ros even though she is a bitch on wheels for the whole of S5, I think she is as pissed off at the fact that Harry kept it from her for as long as he did than anything else. He doesn't tell her because he thinks she will go to bits over it and possibly jeopardize the operation. Its kind of a slap in the face to her professionally.

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

RE: Episode 4 [re-watch]
I can't remember if I have commented on this episode before, but anyway. It is a great episode and feels very "Hustle" like. I love the use of split screens throughout and the little bits like the "flag cams." Malcolm must have loved this op.

I do think it a little OTT that Harry approved the killing in the end. I don't think any of them would have risked 20 years in prison for this, no matter how important it seemed to be at the time.

I know they have been done to death, but the H/R moments are so lovely, but so sad. Ruth is struggling big time with her decision and is even finding it hard to speak to Harry at one point, let alone do anything else with him.

As for Ros at the end. What a cow. What I don't understand is how she knows things are a disaster with Ruth? Earlier in the episode she smiles at Adam when Harry goes to bed. Clearly she is thinking he is shacking up with Ruth for the night. Then at the end of the episode she somehow knows that Harry's relationship with Ruth is a disaster and makes fun of it.

There are two things that bug me about this episode which are continuity errors. The entire team wears the same clothes throughout the operation. They are at Havensworth for three nights. Harry and Adam wear the same shirt and tie for 4 days. Ros wears that green top under her suit for 4 days and Ruth wears that PJ top for 4 days. Now I know things are tight in the Civil Service, but you would have thought they could have afforded another change of clothes. Also when they flash back to the Grid, and show Malcolm typing, his nails look very manicured and he is even wearing a wedding band at 38 minutes !!! Congrats Malcolm.

It wouldn't be the first time that an Intelligence Service targeted a Head of State for assassination. The CIA has a long record of trying to bump off various South American Heads of State. The difference is that these acts are usually sanctioned at the highest level (whilst of course maintaining total deniability), whilst here Harry actually goes against the government's orders to do so. Luckily he was clever enough to record the Foreign Secretary's little diatribe, otherwise they may well have spent time in jail.

You have some serious eagle eyes TL, I didn't even notice the wedding ring on Malcolm, or the clothes thing.

I'm pretty sure that Malcolm has worn a ring at other times.
