RE: Proms?
I've had all of my "proms" but my dresses were amazing. Wink

Lol, just kidding. I had two "proms" one was actually a prom and the second was a "leaver's dinner". First prom was when I was 16 (the proper one) and me and my friends got a limo into school then snuck champagne in and got a bit drunk.

Second "prom" (the leaver's dinner) was amazing, we all had a sit down dinner with some really nice food and then there was disco afterwards and everyone was smashed (inc. teachers) and then at the end everyone went from being happy to sad very quickly. So everyone cried and said goodbye and then we headed back to my friends house (it's huge) and had a massive after party.

Suffice to say, I don't remember much of the after party, only that I was there.

Top night.

RE: Proms?
I didn't know you guys call them proms in England. They're called 'formals' out here.

Oh sorry, my Year 10 one was called a 'dinner dance'.

Because at school all of my best friends were guys I actually went to a couple that weren't my own and they were great! I never took a partner to my own ones because I didn't want to share the misery. I went to an all girls' school.

RE: Proms?
The population of my whole high school is less than 50 people. This year, we were required to go to the graduating class' leaver's dinner because there were only 4 of them!

My prom's still to come... and, like JHyde, will probably not bring anyone so as to reduce the sad people attending.

RE: Proms?
It was a very long time ago for me. Being a Punk stuck in the middle of a corn field in mid America, just out of sheer bull headed anti-conformism, I almost didn't go. I am glad I did. I got a vintage dress (no meringue!), dyed my hair blue to match, and was escorted by my gay best friend. In fact, my whole circle went with a friend - no dates. Which was great because no one felt that they were stuck with any one person all evening. Its the way to go if you ask me! After we did what creative and resourceful teenagers do in mid America when let loose in a sleepy town all night long. It can't be very different from elsewhere in the world.

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

RE: Proms?
That's brilliant! I went because I felt like I should try and get one of the more enjoyable experiences out of school, especially because I hated it and was miserable 98% of the time. I think I also wanted to feel like I was one of the pack for once, as I rarely did social things at school. Either because I wasn't invited or because I couldn't go.

My main memory of my Yr 12 formal was of being completely exhausted. I had worked an early shift and then raced out to regional NSW for a funeral before dashing back to Sydney and getting lost trying to find where it actually was (I got the hotels confused) and got very angry running around in my heels and feeling like a dope. I called the mother of the friend whom I was staying with to find the damn place!

I also ended up having my first drink that night. Only one, but it was my first and I turned 18 about six weeks before. I think I ended up looking after other people before falling asleep on a beanbag.

Exorcising my school demons here, sorry guys.

RE: Proms?
Hehe I was tempted not to go to mine, someone is holding an anti prom bbq that looks more fun haha but it will be the last time I see some people (in some cases good riddance Tongue)
This one is more of a leaver's ball whereas 'prom' prom was year 11 and was crap for me haha it was held at Pride Park Football Stadium, a place I spent most Sats anyway so all the glamour was gone for me Tongue
This year it is held at a country club and I am wearing a full length dress so it should be better. ALthough I shall have to suffer it sober, everyone over 18 gets a wristband so I won't even be able to get people to buy me drinks Sad
And it shall be a real rushy day for me as its the last day of school and we are having fancy dress and bouncy castles on the field and I will have only around 2 hours to get ready Tongue

RE: Proms?
I managed to get out of my year 11 one Yahoo I was so glad I missed it, I thought that I'd just end up standing like a muppet in the corner with no one talking to me (most of my friends were in a big group in the other class, and it felt awkward when I joined them as I only really knew half of them, and it really wasn't my sort of thing). I still have my 'prom dress', which I wore instead when I helped out at a charity ball, so not a complete waste of money.

Unfortunately, I do have to go to the year 13 one, but this one looks better as I know more people (bizarre, I know, that I feel comfortable with more people after 6 months of knowing them than I do after what would have been 4 1/2 years of knowing the girls at my old school). That and I couldn't escape the year 13 one even if I wanted to because I know the three girls in charge of organising it quite well, and they can be very bossy when they want to be.

RE: Proms?
I really only have vague memories of mine, it being 17 years ago, and at the end of 6th Form. It wasn't called a Prom though. We just all got dressed up and went to a hotel in town for a meal. I do remember though being groped by my Sociology tutor at the end of the evening. All in all, a good night and not one to be missed.
