RE: Things I learnt from watching Spooks
Funny allanah! I lived in NYC for several years and now live in New Jersey just outside of NYC. But to be completely inconvenient, I am originally from the American Midwest which is a whole different dialect. I keep waiting for a good old Midwestern accent in Spooks but never get it. ;-) They all sound like Tony Soprano or Larry the Cable Guy. We are just as bad to ourselves. There is an old joke that the map of the US from a New Yorkers POV consists of New York City, nothing, Chicago, nothing, then Los Angeles.
I have to say though, it does go both ways, I am not sure I could name anything between, for example, London and York. Except maybe Lincoln but only b/c I have visited a friend in The Fens. I could certainly not discern regional dialects. Getting better with the Yorkshire though, thanks to Harry! So we live, we learn, and we try to get to know each other a bit better. Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks]; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet |
