You loathe 'costume/bonnet' drama, period.

Ooooh, looking forward to that! I do like Torchwood, but don't often get into many new programs.

Matthew Macfadyen is fantastic as Prior Phillip (as someone described him a "hunk of a monk" Wink ) But the stand out performance for me is Ian MacShane as Waleran Bigod - a very very bad bishop....Ian MacShane should win LOTS of awards!!

This sounds fantastic - I looked it up on IMdb and I really hope it gets shown this side of the pond. If anyone has seen a trailer for it, do tell! I even looked up the book and the reviews on that are brilliant as well, so I shall add it to my wish list (it's such a long list).

Cranford is really funny in places. The cast is superb and really bring what is a pretty dull book to life.

@naivety - you should be able to check out some of the trailers on youtube - or if you are on facebook just search for The Pillars of The Earth (& yup I'm a friend!)
The book is an excellent read which I read when I heard MM was doing the mini-series. The mini-series has deviated on some plot lines, which is to be expected but Ken Follett the author of the book was pleased and ok with the changes, that he actually appears in a scene! Since I never ever ever expect movie/series adapted from a book to be exact, the changes don't bother me. The cast, scenery, costumes, soundtrack is so good that I get swept up in it. I've watched 4 episodes so far with 4 more to come over the next few weeks.

I hope it does make it across the pond soon for you to see!

And Andrea Parker must have been the original Ice Queen, she could give Ros a lesson on 'cool'
And totally forgot that Flashpoint is back on - you lucky Canadians!!!

the "Pillars of the Earth" (book) is awesome! Fantastic there is a film now, too. I do hope it keeps up with the book though! Will have to get my hands on it in some way since youtube is not enough and I do not get BBC here in Italy (maybe I should..)

I like the Deep as well, although it is the most far fetched thing I've ever seen (or at least I hope it is). It's got a similar atmosphere to the early episodes of Lost.

I just watched 'Trinity', with Charles Dance and Christian Cooke (who played Van Helsing in 'Demons', which also starred Philip Glenister doing a terrible American accent, of course!). Charles Dance is always good to watch - he's wonderfully British and plays a really snobbish character. Christian Cooke also plays a very snobbish character - the kind who'd grow up to be Chancellor of the Exchequer or Prime Minister...ahem.

The story revolves around an Oxbridge-style college, with lots of different characters and their sub-plots. Lots of stereotypical characters (one wonders how the two stoned wasters who are marginally comic characters actually got into a university like that...). There's also something shady and clandestine going on, including experimenting on students. It's all a bit hackneyed but some good acting particularly from the lead actors.

"Where's Harry?"
"Moving in mysterious ways."
