What I understood was that he was working for some group that wanted a war in Iran in order to cash in on what would inevitably be huge rebuilding contracts after the war (military contractors, multinational businesses, security firms, etc). War is, among other things, a trillion-dollar business.

I really love this ep -- it's certainly on my top ten list. It's a Harry ep to the core and PF really shines in it. It manages to hit all Harry's buttons -- duty, fair play, protecting British citizens, sticking it to the Americans and the British establishment who toady up to the cousins. The Alex Roscoe character is a little OTT, but still somewhat believable (in a dumb cowboy sort of way).

It's really a good ep for all our spooks, even Juliet who finally stands up to Roscoe. The growth of the relationship between Harry and Adam is terrific, as is the ever more overt display of feeling between Harry and Ruth. Also, I really liked the humor -- Harry watching daytime tv quiz shows, Ruth and her ringing telephone, Colin/Kevin, Adam retrieving the map Jo left behind.

As JHyde said, it's one of those eps where everything works . . . and the good guys come out ahead.

This ep was one of my favourites. So much good stuff - the humour, the spy games and subterfuge. And I think Adam has already picked up on a connection btw Harry and Ruth, and also knows that aside from Malcolm and Colin, she's been there on the Grid longer than himself, Jo & Zaf. He picks her where Harry is concerned for good reason.

Loved the hand pass on the bus. Brilliant

Harry: "My God, Ruth. Is any institution safe from you?"
Ruth: "I like to think not."

Malcolm RE: Episode 9 Discussion [rewatch]
I notice that Harry is living in a different location to where he was in series 2 when his house was burgled. I also thought it very convenient that he has an understanding with his local newsagent. His tradecraft when blowing the dog whistle so that he could get in a few undetected sentences to Adam was priceless!
