Episode 5.3 [rewatch]
So this wasn't my favorite ep, as a totality. Didn't really feel like the "threat of the day" was terribly new or interesting.

However, I was happy with some of the character development, most especially the H/R relationship, the Ruth/Ros enmity, Zaf/Ros (who seemed to get along pretty well), and the hints that Adam might be having some issues.

Especially appreciated the writer's overt recognition of Harry and Ruth -- H asking R to dinner (loved that scene) and the dinner itself (the grand tour). And absolutely loved Ruth telling off both Ros and Harry re thermobaric bombs.

RE: Episode 5.3 [rewatch]
i love the animosity initialy between ros and ruth ;-)

i find the relationship between ros and jo intersting in this ep especialy when ros leans on her not to say anything about Leigh - ros makes herself out to be really vonfident in this ep but by the end of it she really isnt and is actualy upset about her death (even if she dosent show it).

I agree about Adam starting to show issues as well, which some of the team clock!

RE: Episode 5.3 [rewatch]
I really love this episode. It is (along with 4.6) the closest we get to a Zaf storyline and the scene between Ros and Zaf in the housing relief centre remains one of my absolute favourites across the entire show. Both actors so funny and clearly loving it. It is also the beginning of the relationship that leads Ros to

go looking for him in 6.2/6.3.

I love the dinner scene between Harry and Ruth. It's just terrific, as is the scene on the roof. Nothing else to add there, those scenes have already been analysed to death elsewhere.

I also love the tension we feel with Adam on his crusade to find the trigger. That's an evil moment where he has to make a call about the signal and whether the signal is, in fact, a trigger. I actually wonder whether it would have been more interesting to kill someone innocent.

What happens with Michael's girlfriend is totally tragic and it certainly continues the trend of Ros making bad decisions and lying. Ros is a borderline bad guy the first half of season 5 and she certainly comes off badly in this episode, the only glimpse of humanity being the scene with Zaf.

Also love the first mention on the show of 'A Dog So Small', which is such a great story. Of course it comes back in a big way in
Series season8 Spoiler: show
8.1 with Malcolm and Nico.

RE: Episode 5.3 [rewatch]
I don't mind this episode even though the main plot isn't totally original. It just gives us a chance to see a range of characters in action: Ros, Zaf, and Jo. Also the story-line helps with the H/R progression, or non-progression as it turns out.

I also love the Ros and Zaf scene in the Council offices. One of my favourite lines is the "no more horses in modern day warfare" one.

I felt that the girlfriend Lea/Lee was very similar to Tash in 4.1. I kind of wish they had come up with something a little more original there.

As for H/R, still love the roof scene. I have to re-watch that scene about 20 times when I watch this episode. I still find the dinner scene a little uncomfortable to watch as Ruth is so nervous, she doesn't really look like she is enjoying herself. As for the scene where she "dumps" Harry at the end, in his office, that upsets me everytime I watch it. All his hopes and dreams are dashed.

RE: Episode 5.3 [rewatch]
I like this episode for the fact that it is the only time we see Zaf used for what he is so ideally suited due to his appearance. I thought it was a shame, and a trick the writers missed, not to have used him more in such situations. I could see a season-long arc with Zaf undercover in a terrorist cell, which would have had great potential for tension and drama.

Ros still irritates the crap out of me, specifically due to her snotty attitude towards her coworkers. If I were Jo, I would have stuck my finger in her eye on more than one occasion in this episode. Believe me, anyone who's worked in a team set-up like they do, knows that one person with such an attitude creates enormous problems for morale and the smooth working of the team. The fact that this is not addressed, and that the others just meekly accept her walking all over them with that attitude, is not realistic.

LOVE the Ruth/Harry storyline. Harry really is a closet romantic, isn't he? That lovely speech he gives her during dinner, listing all her attributes, is wonderful. The scene where Ruth tells him she can't have dinner again, breaks my heart too.

ETA: The South African bad guy's accent was terrible! Lol.

I totally agree. From the moment Ros is in the meeting room with Jo, talking about Waterfall, Jo is walked over. Ros continues to walk all over her, right to the end of the episode where she tells Jo to lie. Ros may have more experience in the field, but she is still the new girl on the team. Why Adam doesn't pull Ros in, is a wonder.

I actually like how they are portraying Adam's growing PTSD problems. I was very much with this storyline until they decided that it also means Adam must now

sleep with almost every female on the show as well.
